“People have always been trying to silence me for one reason or another, whether it’s that I’m not pretty enough, I don’t sing well enough, I’m not talented enough, I’m not married enough, and now it’s that I’m not young enough,” she tells Aitkenhead. “So they just keep trying to find a hook to hang their beef about me being alive on. Now I’m fighting ageism, now I’m being punished for turning 60.”

Madonna has not felt particularly supported by women throughout her career. She is grateful for the artists who worked against all odds and defied convention before her, such as Frida Kahlo. “There are no living role models for me,” she concedes. “Because nobody does what I do. And that’s kind of scary. I can look back at women who I think were great and amazing – freedom fighters, like Simone de Beauvoir or Angela Davis – but they didn’t have kids. Being a single parent of six children, I continue to be creative and be an artist and be politically active, to have a voice, to do all the things that I do. So I mean, there isn’t anybody in my position.”

interesting comments by Madonna in the new British Vogue

Comparing herself to Angela Davis???

"Bitch, ARE YOU FOR REAL?????"
-The Bad, Bad Dolemite

No one's gonna knock her career, but goddamn (!) Every time i hear her/read her statements, she's playing victimized and hated and REACHING just soooo far and badly. She's getting fuckin ridiculous

I agree. I root for her, but when I watch who she’s become, I usually have to look away. I can’t help but feel a sadness, and a deep insecurity, coming off her. Odd, because her whole thing is bad bitch who takes what she wants. My bf heard her interview after the billboard performance, and swore she was on something. Just my perception, but I’ve stopped watching and reading interviews.

Oh, please. Anybody with basic reading comprehension can realize she's not "comparing" herself to Angela Davis. She's using her as a role model. People love to twist others' words just to be faux-outraged or fulfill their agenda.

Now, onto Crave. Definitely the best out of all three. It took a couple of listens. I'm just waiting for a huge dance banger.

many fans keep waiting for the rumored “disco stomper”,so they may be a little disappointed with this track smile I think, with this album,Madonna truly wanted to do something different. That could be why we haven’t heard any obvious dance tracks yet.

I know people who were in the video with the drag queens. They said the song was a disco stomper. I think it's for "Killers Who Are Partying." But still, how can anybody deny that "Crave" is a fantastic bop. I was annoyed by the autotune in the last two, but not this one. It's not so prevelant. And I love how she mixes country and R&B. It sort of sounds like a Post Malone song, but even better.

Exactly. I kept re-reading her quote trying to figure out how the fuck anyone could come away thinking she's comparing herself to those women. That sort of reaction actually proves Madonna's whole point though. People always WANT to find ill intent with her words or be offended by her for the most innocuous things. Her "White House" speech is another prime example of this. People were "outraged" that she said she wanted to blow up the WH when that's not what she was saying AT ALL, in fact she was saying the complete opposite. Look at how she was treated just for paying tribute to her friend and colleague Prince. BET took it upon themselves to lead that slanderous brigade. Let's just imagine real quick if a major network took a swipe at let's say, Beyonce for something similar. They'd be crucified. With Madonna though, all bets are off, people can say whatever nasty things they want and it's ok. I digress though, I bring that up because I distinctly remember her carrying a purse that said "Dealer" on it in a pic right around the time of her tribute to him and I swear to God there were people on this very forum that said that was a swipe at Prince and she was basically mocking his death by carrying it. I'm sure anyone can look this up that cares to do so, definitely not making that up here. Mind you, Madonna was carrying that purse LONG BEFORE (and long after) Prince ever passed away. Again, people just like to give her shit. I'm trying to reel it in here, the point is, her quote is spot on and who's anyone to tell her she's wrong? That's what she lives and observes.

"I watch what she's become"......."have to look away"......"feel sadness and insecurity off her"......."she's on something".......come the fuck on. Again, how anyone could come away with that watching that little Billboard interview is beyond me. lol Not ageist or sexist in the slightest there, nope not all! lol And no, I don't think anyone that says those things is "rooting for her" in any way, shape or form. Madonna is basically a "soccer mom" these days who's main passion outside of her work is helping others. That seems to be what makes her tick these days. How dare she! What an evil bitch!

I agree. The treatment she receives from the media is awful and very tiring. I've been a fan since 1989.

Yes, Madonna can be narcissitic and can come across as someone who has lost touch with reality but I think her quote is true. There's always some reason for some people to hate her and there aren't any other artists out there who she can look up to as everyone else takes the safe road. Artists half her age are doing Vegas residencies, other artists that came out when she did are either dead or doing Greatest Hits shows. She's still trying new things and being creative.

Her music, videos and tours aren't always as good as her older ones, but god bless her for still trying.

I'm always surprised at the strength of reactions she always provokes from people, some still harbour real hatred for her. I'm a fan but not a major one, she's almost a quaint throwback to when pop stars were allowed exist as pop stars rather than as Beyoncé or Taylor Swift types who are expected to also be writing editorials for the Financial Times and be the most Twitter woke.

That wouldn’t explain the online hate towards her. She has been pretty outspoken on political issues. Her views are the same as Beyoncé and Taylor on most issues.

Imagine that, a pop star "on something". My puritanical sensitivities are offended on prince.org - who does that? Shame on her confused

Nono, I'm not trying to say it does, I'm just surprised the hatred is still around. She hasnt seemed at the forefront of anything in a very long time, why bother hating on someone whose music you likely won't even hear? Its a very different situation to hating on the most ubiquitous pop star on the planet.

Madonna on MJ accusations:

“I don’t have a lynch-mob mentality, so in my mind, people are innocent until proven guilty,” she said in the interview, excerpts of which were published Tuesday in...ndependent. “I’ve had a thousand accusations hurled at me that are not true. So my attitude when people tell me things about people is, ‘Can you prove it?’”

When asked about what she would interpret as proof of Jackson’s guilt, Madonna replied, “I don’t know, I haven’t seen the film. But I guess it would be people recounting actual events ― but then, of course, people sometimes lie.”

“So I always say, ‘What’s the agenda? What do people want out of this? Are there people asking for money, is there some kind of extortion thing happening?’” she added. “I would take all of those things into consideration.”

Madonna has always been a big supporter of Michael. She makes a valid point. You have to look at the credibility of the accusers and what their agenda is.

I like "Crave", but no idea who or what a Swae Lee is. I'll be editing his ass out when I rip the CD.

Here's the video from Madonna's VEVO (audio only, not the official video)

This experience will cover courtship, sex, commitment, fetishes, loneliness, vindication, love, and hate.

Madonna And Swae Lee Warn How Dangerous It Can Be To ‘Crave’ Someone

Swae Lee lends his vocal presence to Madonna’s latest Madame X single, “Crave,” a moody, guitar-driven song about desire and restraint. Produced by Mike Dean, the song features swirly synths over a folksy guitar as Madonna lays out her proposition to a potential prospect, warning that “my cravings get dangerous.”

an insider who has heard the album has this to say about it.....

My favs from the album include:

*Future's production reminds me of how they use the horn in (Ariana's) Bloodline. The song is a summery reggae bop. Madonna and Quavo actually sound great and own the song.

*God Control starts out angelically with a gospel choir and smoothly turns into a disco upbeat fever, after a few gunshots lol.

*I Don't Search I Find] is the other disco-inspired track left in the album.

*Faz Gostoso (feat. Anitta) is quite interesting with Madonna singing in Portuguese. To me, this song is perfect to be the 1st single, not Medellín, it still has that Portugal vibe but super catchy and danceable.

hmmm

Oh dear. I don't like any of the three songs so far. "I Rise" is okay I guess, but Madonna putting on vocal affectations like she's a 19-year-old whippersnapper is hard to bear. I like MDNA well enough, but for the most part, her output has not been good after Confessions on a Dance Floor, IMO.
