For 65 years straight, the #1 genre in music, selling wise, was rock n' roll worldwide. Last year (2017) in June, it got de-crowned by hip hop. Hip hop is the #1 genre. It's hip hop - rock - country - pop or pop - country. ~ Pras

Allnall

The seemless blend of so many genres of music is what is truly impressive.....there are not many artists who can actually boast that they have a world music kind panorama to their songs....

Stevie, Prince are the 2 contemporaries (Prince albeit a few years after EWF hit their stride) that spring to mind for me in that regard.....

What a loss of talent.......sad beyond words

Here's one of my all time favorite instrumentals...

-

-

-

This song encapsulates musically at least why they were/is probably my all time favorite band. They did it all. And they did it all extremely well! Thanks Mr. White for introducing me to such a beautiful instrument in the kalimba. That intro still takes me away every time. It let's you know you're about to embark on a musical journey you won't soon forget. Hell its been decades since I first heard it and it still transports me to another place... Brother Verdine's bass solo still stands as one of the best captured live on tape.

-

Although I'm not old enough to had been around in there heyday, I'm forever grateful to one of my older brothers introducing me to his favorite band when I was a kid. Hip Hop is of my generation, but thanks to older siblings I know where it all comes from.

-

In fact, my first CD I purchased was "Gratitude". (2nd was Michael's "Off The Wall" on the same day). I made sure I bought my own copy of that record that had everything in music I loved in it.

The Grammys will also honor Earth, Wind, & Fire seven time Grammy winning founding member, Maurice White, as the band is recognized for their 2016 Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award. The surviving members will present the Grammy for Record of The Year.

I know right? I could understand if 3 or 4 days had past and there were no more posts. Some other stickies recently have stayed much longer and had less number of posts.

I was reading an interview several years back when Mint was working on the EWF tribute

album and Lawrence El was talking about how it was an honor that Maurice chose them

to work on the project and Maurice telling the band how much Mint reminded him of EWF.

Pretty much with the difference being Stokley's use of the steel pan drum where

as Maurice mastered the Kalimba.

No kidding. Mint Condition should have done the Grammy's tribute. Hands down. What a compliment from Maurice.

I agree completely...when i used tp play the "From The Mint Factory" lp, i remember thinking that Mint Condition was the only band that could carry the torch that was unheld for years, after EWFs prime ended...they fell off tho, after Keri Lewis left to marry Toni Braxton...great point by commenter above, about how Stokelys steel drums being synonymous with Maurice's Kalimba...those extra caribbean musical accents are part of what made 'From The Mint Factory' a timeless classic
