Walk In Sand ~ Prince(20Ten)

This thread is not an album review. Just a song 'review'

After a long journey, the final mile
Wish that we walk together all the while
After a mild labor, we both smile
All of the battles that we lost, both of us in denial

'Cause nothing's better than to walk in sand
Hand in hand with you
Nothing's better than to walk in sand
Hand in hand with you

Another sun is rising
To bed with no delay
The both of us go despising
Not enough time to play

Memories come and then they go
Somewhere far away
Why can't we just get lost together
And spend each and every day doing it?

Nothing's better than to walk in sand
Hand in hand with you
Nothing's better than to walk in sand
Hand in hand with you

Walk in sand

We have danced with royalty
And pimps of the like
You can't please everybody
But such is a life

If there...

If there was only one thing
In this world that were true
Nothing's better in this world
Than to walk in sand with you

Nothing's better than to walk in sand
Hand in hand with you
Nothing's better than to walk in sand
Hand in hand with you

Nothing's better than to walk in sand
Hand in hand with you
Nothing's better than to walk in sand
Hand in hand with you

Nothing's better than to walk in sand
Hand in hand with you
Nothing's better than to walk in sand
Hand in hand with you

Walk In Sand is the seventh track from Prince's 35th album 20TEN. Soon after its release, the Portuguese beer company Super Bock streamed a video of the song to promote their product in conjunction with Prince's appearance at the Palco Super Bock music festival. The video was removed, however, following a copyright claim by NPG Records, and it appears it was not sanctioned, so the video is not listed below or in the music videos section.

A tape photographed in Prince's vault at Paisley Park Studios lists it as 1 August 2009 alluding the exact date for the recording at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Unlike the rest of the album, the song features live drums, played by Prince himself, rather than programmed drums.

Next to Sticky Like Glue, easily my favorite on 20Ten

It's one of those songs that feels like foundational Prince

I like it a lot. One of my favorite songs on that album.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

"Walk in Sand" is a great song!
"Future Soul Song" is one of my favorites from the "20Ten" album.

It grows on you, just like the rest of the album does.
It's a hidden minimalist classic. A lot of prototypes came out before
he achieves here, seemingly naturally, effortless lightness.

It's the greatest Prince "little" album.
It's the beginning of his ego stripping.
You can feel a sense of freedom, a newfound happiness,
that would later develop in the following albums.
20Ten is great because it doesn't try to be a Prince album.
Lotusflow3r is fantastic, but can be pompous here and there, if only for the format.

The video is adorable, with the advertising remaining subtle.
Sad it doesn't make the official channel.

It's often referred to as like something from a tampon advert. I think it's OK, something he could do in his sleep.
.
I do like the album though. Especially the sequence of Sticky Like Glue - Act Of God - Lavaux. I love the rhythm guitar on Beginning Endlessly and Sticky Like Glue.
.
Be nice if the Deluxe gets a release one day to get the extended Lavaux

It's unfair. We fans do a lot of these vicarious statements,
as if Prince talent is something to be expected.

Now we know, he worked hard on his shit, and there are lots of failed experiments and trials in the Vault. It seemed to sound effortless, which is not the same as being it.

After a certain point there was not going to be 'ground breaking' music.

Like most artists, if you give me the essence of 'Prince -purple music' I'm into it. I can listen to this one followed by How Come U Don't Call Me...

I love his falsetto on this one, he sounds like 1979 Prince, I didn't hear any of the 1990 battleworn Prince

20Ten is a special album to me because it is as easy to enjoy as ice cream. Most of the songs on it are relatively simple by his standards and are so accessible, including Walk in the Sand.

Exactly how I feel about this song. It has a certain lightness, romantic vibe, and positivity to it.

We need to put together a list of songs post 1989 that give that quintessensial For You/Prince - ballad/folk-purple music vibe. Tangerine is another, that I immediately get that from.

Walk In Sand gives me that late 70s early 80s 'quiet' that a lot of music had.

It's just very vanilla. Compare it to Damn U, Dark, Goodbye, Friend Lover Sister Mother/Wife or even Future Soul Song from the same album, and it just doesn't hold a candle.

The chorus is inane, unimaginative and repetitive. I'm not the kind of fan who rags on his later work often - I appreciate music from all eras of his career - but I distinctly remember hearing Walk In Sand for the first time and being shocked that he let something so mediocre get an album release.

Thanks for replying. I love those songs you mentioned above, too, and I agree that maybe their lyrics are a tad better than Walk in Sand´s lyrics. Then again, Walk in Sand is still better than Extraordinary, Satisfied and On the Couch. wink

I just love the idea of walking in sand at a beach with a girlfriend. Brings back good memories. lol

The song has a dual tone to it. The opening few lines set the tone of 'the end'

After a long journey, the final mile
Wish that we walk together all the while
After a mild labor, we both smile
All of the battles that we lost, both of us in denial

It's a bright happy song, but also a song about death. Going into the dawn.

It could also be about instability of life or reuniting with past friends

Vanilla is good. We don't always needs leather whips chains and toys lol

Album gets a BIT of a bad rap but not by much. I put the songs in order of how much I liked them when I downloaded them and usually checked out around #5. For the record:

Laydown
Beginning Endlessly

Sricky Like Glue
Lavaux

Actually make that track 4 when I said bye bye

There's a lot of bad song on this record. First time I've revisited it in maybe 10 years and Lavaux BARELY makes the cut and only because it's not AWFUL.
