Great! I am looking forward to it. (even though I paid for it at the movie theater, bought the VHS, the Canadian DVD, the Japanese Blu ray, and the Amazon HD digital version.)

there's a really good update on twitter from one of the guys who is working on this @callumwaddell

No extra footage due to the estate / record companies / legals etc. - same bullshit as always !

90 min documentary + 2-3 hours of 'bonus goodies' . Dr. Fink has just finished his recorded section etc.

Therefore same show as per original release + lots of interviews etc. Sounds great.

Just as I thought. The Estate does not approve.

So Prince, whom fought 4 his first record deal & got it, fought 4 a movie deal & got it, fought 4 freedom from his WB contract & got it, fought 4 his masters & got them.Gets a curable illness & says 2 himself ok, I'm done. "Life is a Box Of Chocolates"

it's bloody complicated isn't it. Ownership of his music is like a huge jigsaw with different record companies having different deals etc. Likewise further complicated with the so called 'Estate' = family, banks & lawyers + add to that co-writers / players etc. All a bit of a 'mare & fills me with zero hope of anything of any true value being released any time soon. Meanwhile the audience wanes year by year.

And where exactly did you read that? The twitter conversation doesn't even mention the Estate. It only mentions there would be "licensing issues" in regards to issuing any outtakes – obviously, as this company does not hold the rights to such material, they simply licensed the movie itself.

.
Producing a series of interviews does not require the Estate's approval or contribution. Of course it would be nice if they would get involved and offer unreleased material, but as I said before, it was obvious they weren't because if they were, this program would get a wider release, not just in Germany.

Not to mention that we don't even know if any outtakes have been kept, in what state they are, etc. Interviewing a bunch of folks and editing that into a documentary is fairly cheap. Restoring old footage etc. is a whole other ballgame. And then we haven't even delved into the legalities of it all. Whereas the SOTT movie is likely a package that is available for companies to release as a Blu-ray/DVD/digital download that requires no approval from the estate.

It's hard to feel much sympathy for the estate at this point, if they in fact are unhappy about this release.

And whatever, when they release a version with outtakes in 2037, I'll buy that too.

So instead of playing it safe and sticking to verifiable info (I provided links etc.), you repeat the unsourced nonsense of others?

I agree at some point that it's hard to feel sympathy for the estate.

But somehow, the estate needs a loadshit of money to be able to pay for it all.

The PP site, the vault material, employees, etc... So that we fans are capable of enjoying the next chapter.

As far as my sympathy goes to the estate, we have to understand that Prince alone and only is/was the problem of this mess everyone's in.

Why are you bothering me Bart. Someone said they heard the estate was upset with this release, I gave my opinion on that. These things happen in a discussion forum. I'm not a journalist, ffs.

I wouldn't need to bother you if you didn't repeat nonsense. I mean, "Someone said they heard the estate was upset with this release" and you immediately assume this is 100% the truth and treat it as such: WHY? Especially when an earlier reaction already pointed out:

.

And where exactly did you read that? The twitter conversation doesn't even mention the Estate.

.

I really don't get this "some doofus said something and I'm gonna treat it as the truth" attitude. Why not apply a bit of critical thinking?

As long as they won't use shitty guest singers I'm all for it.

I'm fine with Wendy, Lisa as lead singer. But if they really need a singer then they should call Jill Jones.

This would be pretty cool! But regarding any newly announced Prince releases, I’m in wait and see mode.

The Estate not being involved in this can only mean good things...but they’ll probably do their best to get their foot in the door at the last moment.

The doc is good news.

Regarding Susannah becoming Susan accoprding to Susan falloff I wonder if Susan's tongue slipped or if the journalist was on drugs when he quoted her. But admittedly there were too many Susan's in Prince's life lol

How could they get that wrong??!!! Unless we're about to find out that Prince proposed to both of them that year eek Pretty sure Susan had moved on by 1986.
