What’s up with the Estate using Prince’s twitter account?

So it appears the Estate took over @prince and all of Prince’s tweet are now located at a new handle called @prnlegacy. Who came up with this stupid idea?!? LEAVE @prince ALONE! If the estate wants to start promoting things or remember him via Twitter use a new handle like @prnestate or something. This is just confusing and will freak people out once they start seeing tweets from @prince again. what a joke. mad

I disagree and think people get it. It keeps the legacy alive. Check this out:

Should leave it alone as he left it, that was part of his legacy in itself, they archived his previous tweets like some kind of vault...wtf. Great so who's on the other end tweeting on his behalf, create another handle...

I stopped following @prince after this move. I'm sorry, but I can't support the estate doing this. @Prince was Prince - his words, his messages, his page. His legacy is his legacy and that is up to others to maintain. They should have come up with a different page for his legacy and left his words, his page right where they were.

No it didn't. I thought it would, too, because someone else said they had to go in and refollow the page. When I checked, I was still showing as following.

Agreed. Especially since for the most part his Twitter account was him posting, not some PR account like a lot of celebrities. Leave his account alone and create a new one for the estate.

If they leave the legacy account alone it should be fine. At least all the commentary is still there, they could have just deleted all of it. Be happy for that, it could be worse nod

I think the official accounts look nice and I'm glad they archived the originals.

It makes complete sense. They even migrated his activity from when he was alive for posterity, that makes sense too.

I love questions that answer themselves. The Estate did not remove the 'historic' activity.... so?

The sad thing is, a lot of them don't (or think they don't).

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Th3y didn’t leave it alone though as they changed the twitter handle. Prince is @prince, not this @prnlegacy shit.

Like EVERYTHING else about Prince, it all belongs to the estate now. The heirs eventually. And they can do whatever they want. This is small potatoes in my book.

I disagree also.
This is the CORRECT thing to do. People aren't going to look for some account without his name in the Twitter handle. They're going to look for @prince.

The legacy account is likely more protected to save the valuable contents there, without interruption of overly-emotional fans.

^^^^^ THIS

I'm getting sick of "grieving", conspiracies, petitions, and unnecessary hand-wringing. Can't people sit back and understand the reasoning behind decisions?

Apart from anything else, it's a Twitter account, so who the f*** actually cares? It's meaninginless.

I really don't understand the fuss over this. It's marketing materials. That's it. Of course it belongs to the estate. That's all Prince is in real terms now. The Estate.

I don't think I even followed Prince.

I don't see why this bothers anyone. Anything Prince did on Twitter is still accessible, and now the estate is using @prnlegacy. Seems appropriate to me.

Social media decisions made by the estate, I'm fine with.

Music releases from the estate is what bothers me thus far.

I'm pleased to see a lot of people have a sense of proportion about this. It's just a simple, common-sense move to bring the social media messaging in line with that of other legendary deceased artists, which will help to create new fans. The 'old' tweets are still there for everyone to see.

Some one of you find the most trivial things to whine about. This is hardly a detestable affront to Prince's legacy.

I wonder how you feel about the REAL issues of the world.
