Other things? Young girls??

I'm not the one throwing around unsubstantiated claims, I don't need proof.

If that's the case, then I say he loved to stick his tongue up women's nostrils, & it's a fact because I say so.

What other things? Were you present? Anna said they took ONE bath together in NY shortly before her 18th. Her actual birthdate is questionable, as you're aware.

As for Mayte, she wrote in her book that she could count on her mother to drive her to his hotel room in 20 minutes, and she brought both her mother and sister along. They left and she stayed with her tapes, which she watched with P, until 4 am.

"Mama and I both understood that if you were going to connect with someone in a professional capacity, you would invite them to get together at either your home or your office—and when you’re on tour, your hotel room is both these things. I knew she’d have my back if anything went strange, but I was equally certain that’s not why I was there."

She then goes on to say Randee St. Nichols was consulted about her dancing shortly thereafter. According to Mayte, this was the conversation:

What do you think?” he asked.

She said, “This is the one you’re going to marry.”

No, no, no. She’s jailbait,” he said, genuinely surprised. “I’m talking about the dancing. What do you think of the dancing?"

Has Randee St Nicholas confirmed making the marriage comment to Prince?? I had always read that came from Rosie Gaines. Just hard to believe either one of them would make a comment like that about a 16 yr old girl....

Like you, I've always heard it came from Rosie yet P said (Oprah interview) he was the one who said something similar when he saw her in line for one of his concerts. IMO, it was part of the romantic narrative PR spin afterward because both versions don't match up with the timeline of when the tape was passed to P and they actually met. Randee hasn't commented to the best of my knowledge but I agree with you that it's unlikely anyone said that about her at the time.

Yes, there were so many strange and "spin" type things that he stated during that interivew, and others too. I think he really put forth a great effort to promote that "fairytale" romance story - just my opinion.

The story/theme/concept that had originally been with Carmen in mind 4 the role. Art/life/showbiz mixup. Not everything is Literal in Art.

Right, I have read at least a few different versions of the "how Prince met Mayte" account.

That's the comment I was referring to in the Oprah interview. Sounded like PR hype then to me. Still does.

Much more romantic and glamorous than then the actual event, which is probably that her Mother figured out a way to get the belly dancing video to Prince via his security, Prince watched it, felt all tingley in his "tootsie roll", and had them bring her back stage after the show to meet her.

Agreed on the first part. I think it was a 2 level approach as even Mayte said they weren't "all that" for a coupe of years. P was a showman. As with Cat, I think he saw an opportunity to bring something unique to his tour shows. If he reacted that way, chances were pretty good his male audience would feel some kinda special, hence the draw. Most men are highly visual and I think he capitalized on that aspect, as much as he capitalized onstage in his appeal to women.

Agreed 100%, because he incorporated the whole arabic vibe during a portion of the D&P tour with Thieves In The Temple. Then the Love 2 The 9's video with putting her in the veiled outfit, the 7 video, and the 3 Chains O' Gold story.

*

Then he got pissed, changed his name and got sleazy, and the belly dancing turned into gyrating and stage diving in underwear and combat boots biggrin

One thing I've come to understand and appreciate about him more is that he's rarely done anything without a reason but with absolutely no explanation. It seems he wasn't impulse driven but guided by his instincts, which he clearly cultivated and trusted. We're only just now seeing the types of characters he had to deal with and why he excerted so much control. Without him at the helm, plenty of associates are running amok. Some of them should be grateful to him for saving them from themselves for as long as he did.

Yes, he definitely changed it up a lot - probably mainky for artistic reasons, but also to keep everyone guessing and interested. He would market his new stuff but usually very cryptically- like in 1985 when he was asked what his next project would be he said, "I'm looking for the ladder" and "Sometimes It Snows In April", and of course the media had no idea what he was talking about biggrin

I'm of that mindset, only because in March of '95 he stated he had no plans to marry or have a family. Of course, we know his responses could sometimes be taken with a grain of salt. Who really knows, but the timing of marriage and pregnancy is a bit coincidental.

^^^ Yes, but SO bizarre that she was recording the conversation. Either she was so head over heels for him that she had to hear his voice all the time, or she had the forethought at that young age to know how valuable the recording would be, and she could later prove the nature of the relationship. Who knows, but it's quite strange.

She did or he did? Since its along with the video and it's technically illegal to record phone conversations without all parties involved being aware of it, he had to of given his permission if she did it and vis versa.

It seems to me that he had no idea he was being recorded. He called her, so I think it's her recording of the phone call. I don't see him, even back then, being agreeable to having his conversation recorded, or wanting to do that himself. It's just very odd to me.

Well, the problem with that theory is that at the beginning of the second recording you can hear her phone ringing - it's a quick ring, as if it had been ringing, and the recording started as she picked up the phone. It's not the same sound of ringing that you get from the caller's side after the number has been dialed. Of course, that is just my thought about it.

Ok. shrug It's just what I was thinking. Reminds me of the recording Damaris(?) did of a phone convo with him on a radio station, I think the concensus ended up being that it was staged. Still don't know for sure.

If the Damaris call was staged, he did some fine acting on that one! He sounded geniunely confused, and also very tired. But yes, it woudl be surprising if she took it upon herself to do that without his knowledge at all.

It is illegal if neither party knows the call is being recorded.

Federal law allows recording phone calls/conversations if one party knows it is being recorded, and most states follow this rule.

Again it's the whole recording someone over the phone without their knowledge thing, and the fact the station was airing live I believe, seems he would have had to been informed prior to it going to the public. Prince never had a problem suing folks as much as folks liked to sue him, so I guess that was part of the consideration.
