Now why is this being laid in the lap of black culture?
FWIW, I’m white, and I see plenty such couples among fellow whites. On another much less important subject, and just to offer my sensibilities, I don’t think it’s true that there aren’t good relationships between, say, people in late 20’s and people 20+ years older. But if someone approaches middle age and dates almost exclusively much younger people, that’s a pattern I’m wary of for sure. I think people should be able and willing to form relationships with people close to their own age. JMO. Also going to point out the relative frequency with which the man is the much older one. Before someone in the peanut gallery starts in about men and money, gonna say that’s a big topic, but for now will leave it with pointing out that not all single men are wealthier than single women. Far from it. Also, think the fact that P was a rock star needs mention. Being a rock star doesn’t excuse any rock star wrongs, but I think it’s fair to note the norms of that world going back to the 80’s.

Why is it wrong beyond the fact you don't like it? We have a history of relationships that the people in them were happy in but other people felt were wrong because they didn't like them.

For example:

Patrick Dempsey

At 21 married his 48 yo manager. A lot of people had very strong opinions about it.

Thanks! I don't think that's what I've said, but maybe I've not been expressing myself well.

I have to run and can be here now onlyforasecond : ), but I'll just say that some of the people I love the most are a some of my relatives where the situation is that the husband is decades older than the wife. I think they have a beautiful relationship.

The "depraved" mention was intended to go to Pete's question which got at the issue of other cultures and places in history where it was a norm, at least in part of the culture, for adults to have relations with children and/or adolescents. I was saying that our culture finds that depraved.

Finally, I only meant the behavior I described to be a red flag I might point out to my child. The other stuff is more complicated. For example, to require that a rock star have a relationship without a big power imbalance rules out a lot of relationships! Seems unreasonable to require that.

I can say that most parents would be less than pleased but given that in both of these circumstances of the young ladies and Prince if you look at all the facts, like they both obviously had their parents approval, they both were living in other countries for the most part while he lived in Minnie, so I don't understand all this "control" he could have had over them. Where does the line go for other peoples opinions about the relationships?

is anna the one who said prince had alzheimers? I forget, he had so many women i get em mixed up. If so, she doesn't sound like the most believable source. And Prince was a player, he was, like most men in his position. He had great things and bad things about him, the women relationships were definitely not something to be proud of. but as i've said, most men in his position have done questionable things. I mentioned how I thought someone was too old for someone else, I think, it might have been Muhammad Ali, who courted his second wife when she was 17 and he was 25, it seemed strange to me, then. today, that kind of gap doesn't seem so big as a 50 year old myself. In his case, from what i can tell, ali's wife was about as poised and mature as you'll ever see a teen, she could dish it out to ali who, like prince, was promiscuous. That's the other thing, these idiots find a great woman and they fuck the relationship up because they make no attempts to control themselves. Ali's wife actualy allowed the extramarital sex, but ali then has to take one of his mistresses out and introduce her as his wife, that was the final straw. In my opionion, he lost the perfect wife.

I love me, I do. As far as how would i feel if i had a daughter that age in that situation? I don't know, I've never liked how most of the women in my family end up with losers but you know you can't do much about it, i don't like it but not much I can do. With a daughter, best thing you can do is be a good parent and they'll see through the bullshit in most cases. Bad parents prep their kids for more abuse, i've seen it first hand. I know that I had a great dad and I never let anyone go but so far with me, never, even when i was underage and stupid. I always knew my worth, no slick talking asshole was coming in, ever. Just raise the kid right, don't take them right to the rockstar as mayte's ma did or let them live with the guy as priscilla's parents did when she was a kid. Just be a good parent, most of the other stuff will take care of itself.

So first off, looking across cultures and history, we can find all manner of practices when it comes to how we treat children, adolescents and adults. As you noted earlier, our culture recognizes certain practices as vile and depraved.

I'm not perfect, and I tell my child I'm imperfect.

I also call out huge red flags. To reference what you wrote above, that is one thing we can do.

Since this thread relates to Anna's story, I'll note something I think is a huge red flag. People have described P and Anna's relative ages and the huge imbalance in power, but I don't believe anyone has noted this. I see it as a red flag in and of itself.

In interviews, Anna has stressed that Prince expressed to her that it was extremely important that her first time be special. To me, this is outrageous coming from someone who is notorious for his double standards about infidelity. More than once, P publicly expresses huge outrage and pain at infidelity being inflicted on him, to include in song lyrics. Countless times, he inflicts this pain on others. Flies in the face of "do unto others" and concern for a lover's experience.

I think it was. So many have labelled him with so many challenges. There is no way he could have had all that stuff, noone has all of those things, hence I ignore all that until I see a medical report, which ain't happening. So MA went against the NOI grain, which I believe is half the age plus 8. Think Loretta Lynn was 15 and her husband was 21 they stayed married til his death about 48 years later. I'm still wondering where is this hard line? Me, getting an education, but then that's not an age gap issue is it?

I don't know, i do know people weren't as shocked by that even as little as 35 years ago. I don't recall anyone ever expressing any shock about loretta when that sissy spacek movie came out. And traditionally, 14 wasn't unusual from her part of the country. Personally, I just hate that male ego thing, that unsatisfiable thing where a man has money, fame and just has to have women to, it's like they use all that shit just for their own egos. It's sickening to me and it's delusional. I've had women infatuated with me at 18-19years of age but like I said, I could tell they were basically kids. Ali fucked up, his second wife was great, she really really was but because he couldn't keep it in his pants he fucked himself. The woman who replaced her divorced him and took him to the cleaners a few years later, fortunately, he was muhammad ali, a name that would guarantee he could make money without even trying. I love ali as much as i love anyone but like prince, he had that bad habit with women. anyway, i didn't like that article because it was deceptive. people like her or martin bashir are willing to drag someone to get a little come up. I really don't know how big a deal it is in terms of the actual societal thing. It's been happening, I'm sure i could have lost my virginity to women in my church when i was 14, no one would have ever know about it, and if they did they'd gossip and show the same faux outrage we see here. I wished I woulda done it personally, one of my biggest life regrets.

Well, cheating definitely isn't exclusive to men with young wives, it's not like there some magical thing that happens that if a man marries someone exactly, or a year or 2 within, his age he'll remain faithful and true forever, so I don't even know how that's even a part of the conversation.
Same with abuse and/or manipulation. I fail to see how such things are exclusive only with age differences, yet those seem to be the only go to arguments.

I know that, my point is the same ego thing that makes a man, much older want a young wife because it makes him feel young and like he still has "it" is the same thing that makes him want to fuck every woman he can. I saw a pic of Quincy Jones with some 18 year old as an escort a few years ago, that's just insane, if you need that to feel good about yourself you haven't really grown up to some extent. It's kinda the same dynamic I see with some of the martial artists I've been around, they'll be 50-60-70 and still trapped in the ego mentality of a teenager, it's pathetic really. I felt when I was 24 that I was more evolved than them and i felt that that was backwards. I am sure, the ones that are still alive, in their 80's and 90's are probably still bragging about their sad abilities the same way. Point is, there are times in life when we need to leave things behind. We don't play with toys when we pass a certain age, we don't watch cartoons past a certain age without people thinking something is wrong with us.

If you ever seen the cyntoia brown documentary, the teen prostitute who killed a john and was sentenced to life in prison. She says something very perceptive which verifies her purported genius Iq, they ask her about men and she says something about how they all "want to be worshipped" it's true, they need to be admired, even if they did nothing to earn it. All I can say is I don't need that, never did, and I never was good at catering to all the men that we all have to deal with in authority positions and feel like they should be treated well just because they are where they are. That mentality itself, I think, has to go.

I have no answer, i don't have much problem with what Prince did, his life, his business. Doesn't really bother me that much. It was a flaw, we all have em. some things we can overlook, some we can't and we've all done horrible things, least i have, we all have some skeletons rattling around that no one knows about. I'm not a good guy to ask I guess. I'm sure some of these older women will tell you that granny's are good.

she's getting out. and what blanket statment di i make? if i did, it's probably because i've seen how some things are so common. her name was cyntoia, she was pimped into doing certain things, same deal, just more extreme, some man asserting dominance and playing head games to manipulate. It's good she's getting a second chance, hopefully she'll do ok. I'm skeptical though, with all she's went through she'll probably fuck up again but hope not.

So you guys are allowed to discuss this now? eek

I wonder what changed.

Yep, we're bored.

ya, i think the women who came here got too pissed off to come back, i called them on their shit and they went nuts. Everyone knows though, how women are. If you don't, ask a beautiful woman sometime what it's like to be gorgeous and she'll tell you how it hasn't been worth the hatred she's gotten from other women, at least that's what i've heard. Women are a whole nother can of pickles. men have the ego, women have the vanity, same thing on the different side of the coin. And don't let them see you having fun, they'll tell on you.

And this arbitrary age is?

Not that I don't get it, I saw as a child, I spoke as a child but when I became "an adult" I put away childish things. I get all that but when is that suppose to all happen?

I have no answer, i don't have much problem with what Prince did, his life, his business. Doesn't really bother me that much. It was a flaw, we all have em. some things we can overlook, some we can't and we've all done horrible things, least i have, we all have some skeletons rattling around that no one knows about. I'm not a good guy to ask I guess. I'm sure some of these older women will tell you that granny's are good.

I don't have a "problem" with it, he wasn't trolling a schoolyard looking for whom he may devour. Sure I wish and would have preferred, but given the facts of everybody's lifestyle involved, it's too unique to have all this spin put on it. So I don't see horrible or abusive or all that other creepy stuff other people want to attach to it for some odd reason.

yup, one thing there ain't no doubt about, younger women are at their peak and that has power all it's own. no stretchmarks, no wrinkles, no sagging, they are as fine as they will be. I've had to fight myself a few times because I knew the downsides would be horrible. but oh my, like that preacher said when he paraded the women in coming to america "there is a god".

Just wait for the reverse of that to become even more popular. Works the same for younger men.

They say women tend to like verbal shit more than visual, i don't know, don't care. If they can get that young meat, and they could if they weren't such prudes, good for them.

ya, that would make sense honestly. Men control the publications. It all makes you world weary though. One reason i stopped looking for breaks or real careers was i saw how full of shit some the oppurtunities i saw were. there was always some asshole wanting to be worshipped at the center and many times, they'd hire young girls and not men, sometimes not, but it was like they deluded themselves that they were some sort of god. When you just there to do your thing, they make it hard on you. I don't play that game anymore, it's too compromising and I don't have any of the advantages. Me too is good in many ways but women are playing naive, or are they really that stupid to think that they got in every door because of their experience and competence? Get the fuck outta here.

Welp I hope Cyntoia makes the best of her genius. I meant generalized statement about the nature of groups of people that aren't really backed up with anything substantial, just your own personal opinion.

I just watched something where mature women, older than me, were getting scammed and manipulated with marriage by men trying to steal their money, not some young hot buff thing either, where's the enormous outcry. Hence I know all this, what you say, headgames, isn't something just pulled by old guys on young women, a ahole is ahole is ahole.

on this topic? no, i was wondering if the article would come up here, after a week I though "well, i guess no one saw it" but then i saw this one. Anyway, the lady had to pull her article, good, i hate journalists (kinda like our man), always trying to come up with some scoop to make themselves big. They do it too, couple weeks ago i was watching an old 20/20 with geraldo, motherfucking rivera, he was doing a show on Jerry lee lewis' wives and how a couple died mysteriously. It was so fucked up, he would disclaim "we aren't saying jerry lee killed her but there is some strange shit going on here". Geraldo was trying to repeat some come up he got off of Elvis' death, he did a good job exposing a lot of the scenario, even though he's a slimey fuck with a wierd moustache.

Oh yeah there was one. Dont know what happened to it didn't seem to be getting much activity the last I saw it so I just assumed it fell off the page.. I got more info on it elsewhere anyway so I never went back to it. The comment section on the actual article were a trip, folks were mad. It was sloppy and unnecessary. You really do have it in for celebrities, what gives?

There was another thread about a week ago about the article that got deleted. I thought you were taking credit for that. lol

I saw the whole twitter thread when it happened. She was trying to get smart with people when Anna stepped to her and contacted her editor. People also messaged Omarr, Chazz and others.

That shrew who tried to come for Prince is nothing more than a lying opportunist who is no more of a journailst than Geraldo. His career never recovered from his Al Capone Vault days when the big reveal turned out be a beer bottle. lol I can't stand him.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
