It's hard to say how the Remaster of PR wil sell since WB put absolutely $0 into advertising it. I think and hope it will sell nice since it's one of the alltime great albums.

Having listened to the Beatles Sgt Peppers's 50 Year Deluxe release, I feel the longing for a Prince release in this style, ie. him and the band talking before and after, even during takes! That would blow my mind! Missed oportunity, same old music, that we all have ( albeit in varying degrees of quality). Warners and Prince estate get your shit together.

We will only have the bootlegs we have to document that and have

Purple Rain usually sells 100.000 a year in the USA (close to nothing in other markets).

.

With this number in mind, and since it's obvious now there won't be a massive promotion campaign, I think overall Purple Rain will sell 300 k in the USA this year, streaming added of course.

.

Sales in summer are the lowest of the year, and WB keeps a low-profile on this reissue. The "Prince revival" of the year was the anniversary of his passing. Missing this deadline was a commercial suicide.

this release is 3 years too late... Should of been released while Prince was still alive to co inside the 30th anniversary of PR... Prince should of reunited with the Revolution the Summer of 2014 to promote this shit out of this with a summer tour! Prince should of talking up the vault and the contents around this time period... Since Prince died, the estate screwed the pooch by not getting this out to the public for the Christmas 2016 season...

But could of, should of, would of don't mean shit....bottom line it didn't happen. I will buy my copy and enjoy it ! as for sales?? strong 1st week and slow gradual decline weeks 2 and 3 then drop like a stone after that!

WB begged Prince for a PR remaster since 2004. It wouldn't have hurt his discography to release the PR deluxe around september 2004, when he stopped the promotion for Musicology.

.

A simple reedition with all the B faces, the extended versions of the tracks of the album and 2 or 3 unreleased tracks would have been sufficient enough to sell more than one million at the time.

.

What a waste.

I keep thinking back as 2 how well put 2gether the Depeche Mode Remasters were handled.

Disc 1 with the club mixes added on and Disc 2 in Dolby and DTS 5.1 surround with a documentary on the entire album/tour project discussed by all members of the band. Only thing missing was the promo videos 4 the released singles.

This would b a KILLER 4mula 4 the back catalog !!! Throwing in a live show on each would only sweeten the deal even more.

I predict it will miss the top ten in all countries as the timing is way off, unfortunately I believe this will impact on what Warners do with future releases. I think we are in for a rather bleak time with regards to future releases, both remasters and vault, this whole business is a shit mess.

Prince even in his heydays often missed the top 10, beside anglo-saxon countries.

.

I think the deluxe version will hit top 5 in the US and Uk the first week, but the other countries doesn't care of Prince. Especially with no promotion at all.

.

If there is no promotion, the only explanation is that there is a problem in the wings ; probably with the estate or with the original contract. Or maybe it's because in 2017 you can't promote a concert release with poor image quality without being ridiculous (like with BAD 25).

.

Outside the USA, beside the eponymous title track, and maybe When Doves Cry in some countries (not in France for instance), nobody recalls a song from Purple Rain nowadays.

Even though Prince didn't really become HUGE in France before Parade and the Zenith show, WDC is super very well known in France (as are 1999, LRC, PR and Raspberry Beret), at least by the people who lived thru the 80's. Those songs (and later hits) were all over the radio in the 80's and early 90's.

But the problem isn't there: Prince is considered a delicacy in France, but French people don't buy records anymore: everyone downloads like crazy or uses streaming services for free. I almost don't know anyone who's purchased any music for the last 12 years or so (and I know a lot of people).

Mais sérieusement, "face B" ne se dit pas "B face" en anglais wink

Maybe we'll see another Warners press release around the time of his birthday - and seeing as Friday is worldwide new release day, June 9 would have made more sense.

It's attractively priced, so I'd like to think that it will do OK - it needs to, because I really need more expanded reissues with recordings that are sourced from bootlegs wink

I don't think it's gonna be all the doom and gloom many of ya'll are making this out to be. Did they let some cruical time go by for this project? Yeah, but it will still sell greatly for them to make a nice profit. Now as for all the other 80's Prince classic records, they will all come out with remasters too! All those albums will make money! WB has them, so why not seel them and take our money? It's a win-win!

Now, I know nothing at all about promotion, so please ignore me if this post falls firmly in the category of 'uninformed bollocks'.
Die hard fans know about this release, we pre-ordered our CDs weeks ago. But what about the rest of the population? Well, I have read about the reissue in newspapers and several, non-prince related sites. I have come across (without looking for them) rave reviews of Electric Intercourse and Our Destiny / Roadhouse Garden. And someone mentioned a week ago or so that they keep seeing ads for this on Yahoo.
It's still three weeks to go, we'll see what happens, but a few ads on tv, magazines and online, a couple of Purple Rain features and some visibility from the revolution, together with the reviews, should sell this, right? Imagine all those critics reviewing one of the greatest albums ever, packed with a second cd of great music!!!
We may have been disappointed by WB not fulfilling what they announced, but people out there, critics included, are going to hear Electric Intercourse, The Dance Electric or Wonderful Ass for the first time. Surely this will be enough to sell this album??

It's encouraging you are finding ads and reviews about it. This release will sell because it's argubly one of the greatest albums of all time. With unreleased songs don't hurt either. smile

I'm anxiously waiting on it to drop and will be buying it in all forms. I hope it does really well and look forward to whatever comes next. As much as Prince loved to make music, I'm sure there's lots more to come.

They should do fine. How much does it really cost to put Prince music up on Itunes?? I doubt it is very expensive to put on Itunes. I've seen plenty of No hit wonders on Itunes. I wish WB or The Estate would just put the all of the music up on Itunes already!!!!

When a judge awarded WB the rights to the 80's masters when Prince was in his hayday with WB.

I think everone is wondering how the cd will sell.

I will buy it for a number of reasons. One the outtakes and another the DVD that I have on VHS.

I'm glad it is not priced like I saw U2's Joshua Tree is around 90 dollars.

I would hope another album, maybe something we already don't have.

Prince was working on the remaster at Paisley. The reason it didn't get released is Prince did not finish it. Like many projects he lost interest and moved on.

Yeah Purple Rain is an old old record and Adele, who is an ANOMALY in music, are very different things. And I doubt she will ever repeat that success.
