Auction Now Live: There's only one Prince

RR Auction is excited to present our next auction entirely devoted to music mega-star, Prince.

The items are available for preview now; bidding will be held Feb. 8-15.

JUMP TO AUCTION

‘DRIVEN BY CREATIVITY’

“He was an extremely smart, articulate man with a very, very quick wit. He was driven by his creativity—there was always the next record, the next video, the next tour—it was 24/7.”

-- Therese Stoulil, personal assistant to Prince, 1986-1996

Listen to our podcast wit...se Stoulil

Very few artists were as prolific creatively as Prince. The huge catalog of albums released to the public are, incredibly, just the tip of the iceberg as to what still lies, unheard, in his much-discussed vault.

Then there are the songs that have rarely been heard. Take this item – that Prince pulled from release at the last second – an infamous work known only as “The Black Album.”

Prince was also known for his meticulous attention to detail, whether with video or film shoots, in his lyrics, or in any project he was creating. Two examples in our auction:

“Under the Cherry Moon...t notebook

Handwritten lyrics for ...our Man”

‘I KNEW I WAS LUCKY’

Sound engineers, personal assistants, musicians, even romantic partners – our consignors were truly Prince’s inner circle. Prince personal assistant...se Stoulil, Prince saxophonist Eric Leeds, Prince's ex-fiancee Susannah Melvoin ...Hear their incredible stories.

HEAR OUR PODCASTS WITH PRINCE INSIDERS

IT’S RAINING PURPLE

Prince’s inner circle have chosen to share with devoted fans a precious few cherished mementos and “Sign o’ the Times” from their experiences working with him.

Some incredible standout pieces include:

A personally played, purple piano

Personally owned and stag...rple boots

Stage-used microphone fro...in” tour

Personally worn purple pants

There are also tons of vintage and candid photographs, rare and unreleased, as well as handwritten lyrics, jewelry, tour memorabilia, albums and awards, personal notes and so much more.

Hurry! Bidding ends Feb. 15.

Yeah. One of my big unrealized goals with the org is/was to make at least a VIRTUAL place for fans to appreciate items like this. Maybe one day. At least RR treats everything with the respect I think it's due, doing research, writing good descriptions and taking quality photos, etc...

I think some were given but I doubt Prince gave anyone a copy of his passport info to sell. I doubt he gave his socks away or a picture of him and his dad. Or copies of contracts. I said it before thank god he died alone or someone would be selling the clothes he died in.

Found an article about the five copies of the Black Album that some WB employee recently found. According to this article the family took one copy and he was able to auction off 3 on behalf of the family and the final one is at this auction. So yes the greedy ass family members are able to auction off some stuff.

So may guess is the family handled this without Comerica since these albums were not assest of the estate

I noticed that Kim Berry stuff is gone and the passport stuff is gone. I will have to look to see if the soundboard and boots are gone. The auction ends on the 15th so no one acccquired anything yet.

Warning the article is filled with some voodoo nonsense.

-----------------------------------------

Prince had channeled so many artists through his fingers, and his pants, and The Black Album sounded like he was updating Sly and the Family Stone, not just any sly either. Prince was thanking Africa for talking to him.The Black Album, aka The Funk Bible, was Prince’s sixteenth studio album. Prince originally planned for release on December 8, 1987, as the follow-up to Sign o' the Times, Warner Bros didn’t release it until November 22, 1994 when it came out as a limited edition CD and cassette.

The estate has been notified the only think I think is they are not concerned about items being sold that are not cataloged as actual assets. Or that some of this stuff was put up by the family and the stuff put up by the associates the family is okay with being sold. Remember for a few days after Prince died the estate had no admin. Family was going in and out. The facility manager went on vacation. Anyone could have come in and taken stuff.

I haven't heard the album in it's entirety, but I listened to "When 2 R in Love", which seems innocent enough and romantic. "Rockhard in a Funky Place" (Camille--his alter ego) has that psychedlic-funk vibe to it and a bit nasty, but you hear worse things on the radio these days.

The information about the music in the article is total nonsense.

What about "Camille", Prince's alter-ego? He didn't say that? confused

Interesting how people are getting their hands on all this stuff....this will go on for infinity.

Splendid paisley brooch personally worn by Prince, measuring 2.5 x 1.5, and set with six multicolored faux gems. In fine condition. From the collection of Prince’s former assistant, who notes: "I spent a lot of time organizing things when we moved Prince to his new home in Chanhassen on Galpin Boulevard. From time to time when I was was there he would have things set out that he no longer wanted and on one occasion the paisley pin was included. I liked it so I kept it." It is a boot. Ridiculous that it is included in that auction.

@Bart, RR emailed me and included this quote from Alan Leeds:

"Strictly speaking it would be a bootleg in that there was never any official release of this recording. Some fans must have made a handful of CDs of the interview and somehow found its way into my archive (I honestly can't recall how I got it). ANY source recording would have been made off the original broadcasted interview and be considered a "private recording”. Any knowledgeable Prince fan would recognize that this is a private recording being made available from one fan to another - that no such interview was ever marketed for sale to the public in any format. Best, Alan"

So... Alan Leeds says it's not only sort of a bootleg smile and I generally agree. I think by the normative fan definition, it probably IS a boot, but especially given its provenance, I think it's not at all unreasonable to have it included in the sale, personally.

Interview discs were a pretty big boot item in the 1990s and beyond. This is just Prince, but the same happened for plenty of other artists: https://www.discogs.com/s...p;type=all

.

Of course, with Prince it was more lucrative, because he did so few back then. And some of those dontain material that's definitely copyrighted, e.g. the MTV interview fron Nice etc.

Yeah. One of my big unrealized goals with the org is/was to make at least a VIRTUAL place for fans to appreciate items like this. Maybe one day. At least RR treats everything with the respect I think it's due, doing research, writing good descriptions and taking quality photos, etc...

We tried Ben, remember? That was our vision.

Wow. Most of those final prices are insane!

.

Sacrifice of Victor book for $1655!!

Special Edition of the Gold Experience album $847

.

Who would know if they were really owned by Prince or not, or whether he even looked at them if he did!?

.

Anyone want to buy mine? (Prince may have held them in factory... although I can't prove it!)

i dont understand how weared boots go for more than his piano. 25000 instead of estimated 50000, while almost all the rest ended higher than the estimation. Some stuff was just crazy priced.

His boots are custom made, and totally iconic (these are even purple ones)... the piano is just a purple piano !!??

To each his own.... I would throw worn boots in the trash rather. Who knows what songs originated from that piano! (well, we dont, that's the problem)
