Destiny's Child are amongst the top 5 artists that could be considered for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

COULD GET IN NEXT:

5. Destiny's Child (Eligible 2023). Fifteen years ago, the idea of Destiny's Child as a Rock Hall contender would've seemed preposterous -- but not nearly as much so as lead singer Beyonce becoming the most critically acclaimed artist of her generation. The latter has almost certainly happened, and it wouldn't be surprising if the former did as well: Destiny's Child are rivaled only by TLC as the most beloved girl group of the past quarter-century, and as Beyonce's esteem only continues to grow, so does her original group's stature. It's already been a decade since the last girl group (The Ronettes) was welcomed to the Hall; it seems right that DC should be the first modern group to extend the tradition.

Of course they are. FFS.
.
We need Tom Petty, Steven Tyler, Bonnie Raitt, Tina Turner, Alicia Keys and Gwen Stefani for an epic final number like "Bug A Boo" or "No No No (part 2). All 7 members of DC appear to perform "Bootylicious" on stage together for the first time ever and Beyoncé finally fulfills destinys role as its child by gathering the 12 and ushering in the apocalypse.

lol

Funny about Destiny's Child but the Crystals once had a song in the 60's called

Da Doo Ron Ron and the Supremes had a song in the 60's called Bah Bah Bah on

their Reflections album.

Well I feel Carole King or Janet Jackson are just two who are more deserving then Destinys Child. Would they even be considered if it weren't for Beyonces popularity as a solo act?

Nope. DC being considered for the Hall is like SWV and EnVogue being considered for the Hall too.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I like DC but they need to take a number and wait. There's many other groups and artists more influential and more significant thab them who have yet to be inducted.

Yeah, there are many acts in tbe hall that shouldn't be (yet) but the point still stands.

Its funny because all the article does is talk about Beyonce and uses Beyonce's "critical acclaim" in order to validate why DC should get into the RHOF. That right there should let you know DC does not deserve to get into the RHOF. DC is a seperate act and should be judged as a seperate act.Neither DC or Beyonce as a solo act deserve to be inducted. Neither have done anything groundbreaking, influential, or game changing on the overall landscape of music and entertainment. In regards to DC, there were much much bigger groups in the 90s that made a bigger impact than DC. TLC is way more iconic than DC and Spice Girls too. Not to mention, DC had too many member changes with each of their albums for them to be considered as a real group act. The powers that be will have there say regardless but I am sick and tired of this "industry political agenda" when it comes to this girl.

No matter how big Beyonce is the fact remains that she hasn't done anything Janet Jackson (or Tina Turner) hasn't already done. Being a better singer doesn't make her a better performer because none of her tours can be more acclaimed than Janet's best tours and will certainly never be as influential. The only difference is that, unlike Janet, Beyonce is a legitamte pop culture phenomenon but which is not unlike Britney Spears (a Janet and Madonna imitator); essentially the only two female pop star phenomenons since Madonna.

I guess in Beyonce's favor is how she is judged with her main peers: Britney Spears, P!nk, Christina Aguilera and their impact, who all have artists from the next generations site them as an influence. You can't judge artists to against previous generations anymore.

I would also agree about TLC. I would argue that if 2pac is in TLC should be strongly considered.

How could Beyonce be more of a pop phenomenon than Janet when unlike Beyonce Janet is actually an ICON and has more iconic moments in pop culture and of course music. IMO, I view Beyonce more so of a media brand who seems to be mostly famous for who she is vs what she does music wise. She is no different than a Kim Kardashian in that respect.

Again, I give the edge to Britney when comparing her to Beyonce because Britney has more Iconic albums, songs, performances and videos than Beyonce (which I think we both agree on) but overall I don't see how they are more of a phenomenon than Janet. Again, maybe I am misunderstanding you and if so can you elaborate. Also, I don't think Beyonce is a better singer than Tina or Janet. She is a more stronger vocalist but singing and vocal skill are two different things. Overall, I agree with all the other points you made and as usual you make great thought provoking points that really challenges my perspectives.

I think TLC is criminally underrated. All of their albums are classics and Crazy, Sexy, Cool is iconic. They are the most influential modern day girl group and there hasn't been a modern girl group as iconic and as influential as them since.

I would say there is a difference between pop phenomenon and pop cultural phenomenon. In Janet's favor you could say Beyonce being a pop cultural phenomenon has more to do with social media than herself since social media has spawned the likes of Psy, a brief pop culture phenomenon, but one nonetheless. You could also argue that Britney being a pop culture phenomenon had as much to do with TRL as it did with her. And in fairness, the same could be applied to Janet and Madonna with MTV (But not, for example, Michael Jackson or Prince as their talents were already established prior to the launch of MTV)

I don't really think Beyonce is better than Tina Turner at anything musically (vocally, perhaps) so I wasn't arguing that.

Yea I know, I wasn't saying you did. My point was Beyonce may be a better technical vocalist than Tina and obviously Janet (yea I agree with you on that) but IMO she is not a better singer in terms of how she uses her voice, vocal tone, and how she expresses emotion. That is what makes a good singer imo and Tina Turner and Janet are more superior singers than Beyonce in that respect.

OK. So I understand now the point you were trying to make by calling her a pop cultural phenomenon. However, when it comes to Beyonce even when compared to Britney Spears for example, it seems all so contrived and manipulated. When I think of a pop cultural or pop phenomenon I think of how these particular figures impact people and culture and when it comes to Beyonce there seems to be a discongruency with how she is presented compared to how the general public, culture, people actually view and feel about her. Britney has two diamond albums and broke records during her peak that are still un touched and made a big impact on MTV culture during the last leg of MTV so yea I can see that argument being made for Britney Spears because the impact is there and felt and still sited but with Beyonce it just seems all smoke and mirrors and seems like media propaganda and I don't see how she has made a huge impact on culture or people (when you take all the flash, propaganda and lies away) but thats just my opinion, we can agree to disagree on this I still think your the bomb! thumbs up!

They will get in but not before Beyonce does IMO. It's funny because Beyonce's legacy obviously started with her and the beginning of her intoxicating influential vocal styling(rap-sung staccato hybrid merging elemental concepts of rapping and singer together) came through her work with them(No, No, No Part 2 in the genesis of that) but her legacy has been extended and grow greater as a solo act.

Because of her work with both, being influential especially in the lane of Contemporary R&B, will get her in and then DC as they see all of their legacies and believe it or not, Kelly and Michelle have been pretty successful believe it or not. Not as commercially successful as Bey, but successes in their own right and that will help the overall legacy of DC.

I wish that there was a HOF for Contemporary R&B, especially since the genre is now over 40 years old and there are more than enough entertainers who have contributed to the progression of the genre to honor them. I feel like artists who began from the late 70s(and earlier) to the late 90s, even early 2000s can be honored as time goes on.

Dolly Parton?? Hell no, they should NOT start inducting country singers. There's already a country hall of fame anyway.

BTW - The thread title should be changed, as the article refers to only female artists.
