Everyone realizes that Prince was behind this release, right?

This is in regards to disc 3 of the PR remaster, assuming it is legit.

Think about this for a sec. Prince pissed off WB royally when he was alive, right up to the very end. There are thousands of songs to choose from that could have been on that third CD. What are the chances that the only two unreleased songs (that I am aware of) with swears in the title, Wonderful Ass and We Can Fuck, wind up on this very small track list? Being the first thing most non hardcore fans will hear from the vault.

These were picked by WB with intent, they knew Prince's stance on swearing, and they are directly flipping him the bird by having these on there.

Don't get me wrong, I am glad they are on there, I will love clear versions of both of these, I just find it amusing and petty that WB's animosity still lives on even after he is gone.

Is this observation off base?

I have to say I was somewhat shocked at the songs on the 3rd disc and wondered why myself. Don't know the reason.

i think most of us think he would not have given the final ok on this, if this is indeed
what they are about to release. prince himself, if he'd decided to give them an entire
disc of bonus material, would have found a way to fill that disc without having to dig
out a song with "fuck" in the title, which is about as crass as anything he ever put on
an album in the past, way before he even decided against cursing and direct sexual
talk.

so i don't think that everyone realizes that prince was behind this release since it's
an absolutely 360 from everything prince talked about and stood for in latter years.

Agreed. The post is garbage. Remember, Prince checked off on this in 2014. The truth is always more interesting than some 2nd rate conjecture.

Was this the same release that Prince wanted that WB failed to deliver? Or has it been changed?

I don't know the details of the 2014 Purple Rain deluxe, but presumably, a lot of this stuff was already in place. There was never a tracklist back then. Dr. Funkenberry reported that it was going to happen in general. I don't get all the single edits being included, esp since IWD4U, LGC, WDC & PR edits are on 4Ever. Do we need the edit of "17 Days"??? How much shorter can it be? Anyway - WB didn't fail on the delivery. Prince tweeted that WB wasn't willing to pay him what he wanted for it, so that part of the deal fell through.

the man didn't even sing 'intercourse' when he performed a bit of electric intercourse
a few years back (2014/2015?) when he was obviously working on the remaster.

instead he just sang 'electric......electric.....electric'.

hardly the man who would then decide to put "we can fuck" on the remaster lol

don't get me wrong i'm glad to take every bit and morsel of music we get, even if it's
cursing included. but it's not a stretch to think prince would not want this released.

Yes, which is why I have mentioned in other posts that we still have a ways to go before we get the first actual vault release without any input from Prince.

But if anyone believes for a second that Prince would sign off on having We Can Fuck and Wonderful Ass on this set, after all those years of not swearing and all those years of changing lyrics around, they are severely disillusioned.

As a matter of fact, these two tracks could be a contributing factor to why this never happened in 2014 and was delayed for so long if indeed Warner was adamant these be included. We will never know, but it is plausible.

Thanks for the explaining...
It's not a big deal to some but I would really like to know if this was the trac list Prince wanted for the release back in 2014 or if WB changed it after his passing.

Only two likely scenarios imo:

1. Warner added them after the fact.

2. Warner wanted them added and Prince did not, which could have been one of points of contention that led to this never happening in 2014.

I would bet my BMW Prince would have never signed off on this tracklist. It just goes against everything he stood for so strongly since 2001. And we all know how set in his ways he was, unwaivering would be an understatement.

Considering that Purple Rain already has Darling Nikki "masturbating with a magazine", I don't see these songs as any more explicit or rude than what's already on there. Non-issue in my opinion.

I would not be surprised if it was only another "Remastered" release of Purple Rain and a remastered version of Purple Rain with a new cover and no more.

.

Warners only care about money and fleecing grieving fans, however I am convinced the fanbase has dropped considerably since the druggie revelations.

WB is releasing several amazing, unedited tracks. All of which would never have seen the light of day in their original form if prince was still alive. I'll go ahead and hold back on the fury and be thankful for what we are getting.

They found some info concerning the remastered project on his desk
. He wanted to resign with them and it is obvious they are going to be in the picture for eternity for the soundtracks at least. I do not care what anyone thinks I believe he structured this deal so that WB will control all of the music. No company wants to only have the license to some of the catalogue. He did this stop lawyers from deciding where the music is going to end up.

Wait, he's singing We Can Fuck?!? I thought he was talking about funking!!! biggrin

In all seriousness though, to the extent putting these tracks on the set was done without Prince's involvement, I don't think it's a sign of hate. It's a sign of WB's respect for great art and a great artist.

No it's not, if they tried to include anyting Prince hadn't already agreed to, they wouldn't be able to release it. The rights to all unlreased music he hadn't signed deals for already are still in dispute.

If this tracklist turns out to be legit, I think you're reading too much into it. WB is about making money and they will choose the tracks they believe give them the greatest opportunity. There's no point to them holding some old grudge, especially at their expense.

There is evidence that Prince WAS at war with Warner Bros Music still ! Prince told fans to picket them! Prince held a press conference about he was going to change the intire industry to give the artist control of their music . Do you even know who these people are? Its not Mo O. anymore.

I see where you're coming from, but I also see WB side of the coin. If we're remembering Prince, the whole person, then we're remembering the person who did indeed think the world would hang on his every word and song, no matter what. And so think of the inclusion of those songs as their way of saying, "Okay, yeah, you stopped cursing, but you used to and you gained notoreity because of it." That said, the songs are about as cohesive as you would expect from an org fan, which is to say entirely subjective. Not a bad thing, just subjective.
