* THAT GIRL THANG! (NEW SONG!) ~Prince/3rd EYE Girl

NEW!! I am purchasing now, so I don't know what to expect! LOL

GO TO 3rdEyeGirl!

http://3rdeyegirl.com/

UPDATE: It's a pretty LEGIT acoustic song, as mentioned..it sounds like something dreamy to me. AND as already known; Prince brings a closeness to the track. As if you are sitting right next to him as he performs this. Almost like he just recorded it, and sent it to us. It's something that keeps you asking for more. Nothing all in the open, layered with instruments and sounds...This is just something extremely delightful and calm. I love Prince on acoustic guitar, always something lush! This brings that flow! Just for the CHARGE of 88.cents! smile

It's a shame! I can not even listen to it, and I believe I probably was the first to download it! Haha..I just sent them an email! This is what it reads:

"I just purchased the new song 'THAT GIRL THANG' and to my surprise, for the first time, I was unable to open the file. It is not being recognized on my computer and that has never happen. AS soon as I checked 'My Account' the file does not even show up on my purchases. I really would like to hear this file, as you know! smile SO..How can I get this file, and what can be done about a possibly broken file?

Thanks so much in advance!

I love everything you guys do, and I am sure you guys are working hard and I really appreciate the help!

I dig it. It's just Prince and an acoustic guitar. Can't really compare it to anything else of his right now. Almost sounds like a demo. Not quality wise, it's just really stipped down. At one point it sounds like he bumps the mike. At the end of the song u hear some tape hiss along with hearing him reach to stop the recording.

Rename the file.

Make it that.zip.

Extract the WAV.

Enjoy.

I figured it out a while ago, my computer did not recognize it because I did this recent weird update, and for some reason it was not included. BUT now I fixed it. smile

Thanks a lot for the advice! It'll be useful for people who may not know! ZIP files come in handy a lot anyways! smile

Its a sexy acoustic

Sung in prince 's trademark falsetto. With just his soft thumping acoustic guitar. It uses space & silence to tell a longing story of his yearning of a sexy scented lover...

"Uh oh
I got it again
That girl thang (x2)
Uh oh
I got it again
That girl thang (x2)
That I cant wait to see my favorite smile again,
That girl thang (x2)
Been wrestling with these butterflies a while, I been
Girl thang (x2)
Couldnt take a shower cause I smelled like her,
Problem is I aint seen her since the 3rd,
If I dont get clean real soon
It might be a minute before I make her swoon
again
swoon
again

Uh oh
Its here again
That girl thang (2x)

She has to do a simple thing like run an errand
Im feeling left alone, unbearing
I am lost again
Lost again
The sound of her coming back to play
Is like a water to a rusty castaway, my best friend, girl thang, girl thang

Uh oh
Its got me again

Uh oh
That girl thing, girl thing

Im her little secret
People think Im free
instead of a 5th dimension prisoner, ecstasy
I got it again, I do
Girl thang, girl thang

Uh oh
I got it again
That girl thang (x2)

Its ok
Even if I lose
I win"

The song is awesome. Prince sounds sprung. lol

He's definitely sprung! Also, I could be completely wrong but I don't think AA's out of the picture. I think this is about her...who knows though could be about anyone. Also he references, "a smile that can weaken any man i swear" in "If I Was King" and he references "his favorite smile.." in this song...who knows. Fun to guess at who is inspiring these songs.

As soon as I read "acoustic song" on this forum my heart sank a bit. I'm not usually a fan of purely acoustic Prince songs, and this one hasn't changed my mind.

I don't really like it. It's by far my least favourite of the songs realeased so far through 3rdEyeGirl.

I will give it more listens but this could possibly be my least favourite Prince song ever.

Just my personal opinion ... everything else from 3rdEyeGirl has been fantastic.

Originally, the term masterpiece referred to a piece of work produced by an apprentice or journeyman aspiring to become a master craftsman in the old European guild system.
His fitness to qualify for guild membership was judged partially by the Masterpie

He doesn't reference anything in If I Was King, he didn't write it! He co-wrote Superconductor, The Calm and Long Gone.

That out the way, the new song... Listened once will listen again but it wasn't on instant repeat. I absolutely love that he has an outlet for this and I absolutely love that it has been released but this is one that I'll have to be in the mood for as opposed to something I can listen to anytime.

While it's not my thang, I'm sure that if this was a newly surfaced 80's outtake everyone would go mental for it and ask why he isn't doing stuff like this today.

Strangely enough, it downloads without the 'zip' extension.

That must be an apple thing confused

Anyway, easily resolved by just typing it yourself (add '.zip.), and the thing opens.

I think this is the kind of song that is for the fan who wants to hear EVERYTHING. I agree with the assessments that it sounds like an impromptu, hastily recorded kind of thing. Like a sketch of an idea that was "jotted down."

As it is, I don't think it will be getting a lot of replays from me. However, It sounds like it could make a nice interlude on an album of love songs.

It will be fun to hear if he ever fleshes it out or revisits it, and be able to compare it with this demo.

Unzipped it in2 a wav, which slipped easily in2 my iTunes, then my iPhone & it's been constant repeat for about an hour, kissing & caressing my mind whilst I clean up the hoose! lol smile

I dont think its about AA. The vibe is completely different. All songs with AA have been retro, rock... This is something else.

OK, I'll let it it slide that you're not being a smart arse and I should have been clearer with my question. What I meant is which format is the song file within the zip?

It's another WAV!

cool

Thanks djThunderfunk highfive

On the technical side of things I'm using Firefox on PC, for this song the file That is downloaded with no extension.

After renaming by adding .zip extension and extracting the file the structure of the archive under root has

  1. file That Girl Thang.wav
  2. folder _MACOSX which contains file ._That Girl Thang.wav

For the techies why is the folder _MACOSX and it's contents included?

The song is pretty cool, it's like Prince popped up at my place with his guitar, sat himself down on the lounge and said "only got time for one"...

... and I said fine have your US$0.88 and be on your way, see you next time.

For the Mac users.

That file contains stuff that Windows users etc cannot/do not yet store with their files.

Extended attributes and such.

Just ignore those if you're not on Macintosh.

I actually really like this song.

I can imagine it easily fitting in an acoustic break within a new album. It certainly fits within the relationship dynamics of the Boyfriend song, adding more depth/soul to the scenario, as does You Will Be (With Me), which incidentally segues quite perfectly after That Girl Thang, due to its yearning nature and the quality of the demo. If only they would release the You Will Be (With Me) demo.

Are these the NEW studio songs so far?

3rdEyeGirl

01. Rock and Roll Love Affair

02. Screwdriver Remix

03. LOL (...to be released)

04. Breakfast Can Wait

05. Same Page, Different Book

06. Boyfriend

07. RnR Remix 7

08. Screwdriver

09. That Girl Thang

10. You Will Be (With Me)

[Running time: 42 minutes]

Based on the above, the sequence is just about beginning to flow and segue extremely well, but I can't work out whether I am missing any songs affiliated with this specific era (i.e. not including 20Ten era songs).

Digging the song. To me it'd blend well with the accoustic version of "Reflection" he played on Tavis Smiley. The little nuances I've read earlier this morning I'm not able to hear yet since I'm listening to it at work, but they'll be heard in my truck this afternoon.

People who are opining that they don't like this song are missing the point: This isn't a song - yet. It's a sketch of a song, an outline, a doodle.

How many times have we said (well, some of us, anyway), "I wish I could get more of a sense of Prince's creative process? I'd love to hear the evolution of a song." That's what this is. He's letting us into the studio (or maybe his living room) as a fly on the wall. This is a gift, people. Recognize it.

I have said many times that some of my favorite bootlegs are rehearsals. I love to hear him working out arrangements and sound, and cueing the band. Maybe it's my own work as an actor, but I often find the process more interesting than the finished product. I'm really grateful to Prince for letting me get a glimpse into his journey for 88 cents.

Find it really odd that they re-labeled "Boyfriend" as demo, even though it sounds like a fully-formed, completed production.

Whereas "That Girl Thing" gets no such tag, but is obviously a demo, since you can hear the tape hiss and there's actually a little bit of a tape error or something in there.

^ Yep, mine's 'scratched' too.

I like the fact that we can pay him straight for tunes without a middle man. He can up what he wants and we can take what we want. I'd rather have preview clips before having to buy everything though.

This 'Girl Thang' is an absolute masterpiece rolleyes . I've never heard him play acoustic so well as I've never heard The Truth, Don't Play Me etc. or anything else that's gone before. (Just pullin ya pisser Schro). Lyrically I'd say it's nothing short of poetic. Beautifully scuplted and dripping with emotion. Something any twelve year old boy would rightly be proud of writing.

If it's a 'work in progress' fair enough but I'm not sure what he's up to with the sound. It's as if he's trying to create an out-take feeling which is pretty funny to me. Like the ending, it sounds like he had to hide his mics real quick before he caught himself recording.

Fair enough for 56p. Keep em comin, honestly, I do appreciate em.

Does it say "demo" on the 3rdEyeGirl website? Nope! Did we pay to download it? Yes!

This isn't a bootleg. It's an official release and we're allowed an opinion on it.

I've personally never asked to listen in on Prince's creative process. I'm happy just buying and listening to the end product. In this case the end product doesn't do a great deal for me. But that's okay.

Why the heck did they put this in a .zip file when it only saves about 2mb in this case?? There's no real point .ZIPping .WAV files as the advantage is miniscule.

Also the file extension of the unzipped file defaults to end in .ZIP meaning if you try and drag the download to your normal folder you have to rename the file as otherwise it clashes....grrrr!

These are schoolboy errors that any good computer savvy person knows...

Can you read? I didn't say it was a bootleg. I said the bootlegs I enjoy most are those of rehearsals - not that this is one. If Prince put it out himself, it is, by definition, not a bootleg. Duh.

I also didn't say people aren't entitled to their opinions. But this is clearly not a finished song. The glitch at :51 and the sound of him turning off the recording at the end is proof of that.

So what if you didn't ask to be in on his creative process? A) I never said you did and B) I don't really give a fuck if you like it or not.

I mean if he did have sex he would break every rule Jehova's have regarding premarital sex so Prince is really just friends with them all anyway.

I wouldn't be so sure. It's been a long time, but remember that Prince used to release stuff with similar mistakes/glitches all the time. I wouldn't be surprised if he feels like this is worth leaving as is, warts and all.

As has been said already, it's probably in a zip file to avoid the problems people have had accidentally streaming stuff from 3rd eye and losing one of the limited downloads. You can't accidentally stream a zip so it avoids the problem.

Mr./Ms. Otter, I would suggest that it was tobydavies who got aggressive with me. He clearly did not read my post, and yet, he ascribed statements and sentiments to me that I did not express. Got pretty snotty about it, too.

So I've listened to it some more. The lyrics are emphasizing how strongly he feels for this girl but aside from that there is nothing in the music that makes me relate to how he feels on more than a shallow level. The music is rather uneventful and mediocre.

Without wishing to labour the point, as the subject in question is barely worth the attention it has been given, I actually didn't find tobydavies suggestion particularly aggressive towards you, and certainly not one that would require you to use such an aggressive stance. Wow, the most demo-like song Prince has ever released!

Sounds like he's recording a good idea on a dictaphone or something - just trying out things and returning to the good hook of the chorus. Probably has some lyrics jotte ddown, but making up a few more as he goes along.

Very private.

The lo-finess of the recording suggest that this may be a much older recording that we think? Or that he is using old equipment? Or that he records this on his mobile or something? We may get the file in a WAV, but it certainly comes form a much lower bitrate initially - you can hear that on his voice.

Still, lovely little gem to add to the box smile

Exactly my thoughts! We used to buy CDs that cost a lot more, and with a bit of bad luck we may have liked only one or two, maybe three songs. So we paid a lot more money for 2 or 3 songs that we listened to over and over again, while the rest of the songs on the CD were quickly forgotten. Now we get one song at a time for just 88 cents - if Prince's new music is not worth even that much to some people, then they have no business calling themselves fans! (IMHO)

The CD standard is WAV format. Sure, you can make an MP3 CD, many players will play those now, but, if you rip a store-bought CD without converting the files, you will have WAVs.

First of all, I like the song.

And I appreciate the intimate spontaneity of this recording, BUT: I do find the breath pops on the microphones to be quite irritating. Especially when you're listening with headphones - it kind of ruins some lush moments...

But the overall sentiment is very nice indeed!

I like the song. Definitely does sound like being in the studio with Prince. Even with those 2 little pop spots in the song where it's like he blew into the microphone or something. So far I believe every song on 3rdEyeGirl has been a hit!

Just for the CHARGE of 88.cents! smile

Prince is in rare form...I am just loving these new songs....listen, if he keeps throwing them up, I will keep paying .88 cents. nod

cool I really like this song. It feels so up close and personal, like Prince is right here. The delivery sounds so smooth and heart felt, I'm loving that the variety of genres that Prince covers, and keeps expanding.

I'n using a borrowed pc while mine is in the shop. Even tho I've only listened to most of the downloads once, on my 3rdeyegirl account it says there are 0 downloads remaining. I hope these songs will stay up for awhile, at the price they're going for, I really don't mind paying twice. Having new Prince music is sooooooo nice!! biggrin

I think the main reason for tossing out the WAV files is mainly to get a feel for what these songs are about, these for all we know are songs not on an upcoming album, i think thats mainly why we are going to get perfect quality stuff right now till there is an album ready to go, which is still unknown if they'll be one, he could just be putting out jams for all we know.

I'm absolutely loving this. Playing it on a loop for what I'm guessing is the 6th time.

It's just a little bit similar in melody to The Dance in some bits.

I'm reminded of the bit in The Dance where he sings

"If I'm feel this way again, If I can't be your lover I don't wanna be your friend"

I wonder which came first since we don't have a recording date for this.

Either way I love it and it was well worth 55p

Exactly. This song sounds like he just woke up after a night of making love and grabbed his guitar and just started singing. Very raw and emotional, like a musician just starting out. Not worried about tempo or tone. Just a guy and a guitar.

Absolutely love it.

I agree. We're all entitled to an opinion, good OR bad. Once, twice or three times a lady. I've paid for plenty of redundant album tracks too.

Rod, don't give em ideas for more rules ffs.

Still can't get into this though. Song sounds weak to me. I love the idea of putting stuff like this out, unfinished and a bit raw. If this was part of an hour he'd spent somewhere I'd be up for hearing the rest.

Since when do you have to pay for your own gift? No, it's not a gift. Just another song. If it REALLY was an outline or sketch, as you call it, wouldn't it be called a "demo" (which he hasn't been afraid to tag onto the end of a song title before)?

It sounds like it's just a weak, half-baked track. Plain and simple.

prince is feckin nuts... he puts out random tracks in various sound quality...labels the "boyfriend" track as a demo when it sounds finished and then puts out a true one take demo with mic noise and doesnt call it a demo ???. lol

"that girl thang" may well be the roughest track prince has ever officially released ?..i cant think off the top of my head anything else that sounds like he has recorded it straight onto a tape recorder or something like that..

not that i am complaining ..i would love prince to stop putting some of the high gloss polish that i think he puts on too many recent tracks but this doesnt sound like a completed song...just a work in progress...as pretty as it is...

i dont think the recent tracks are anything great..."screwdriver" is a solid track and the rest are ok but i dont think they are as good as the 20ten tracks...maybe thats just me but i am still waiting to get blown away by something and it aint happened yet...

but i do love any new music so lets hope the best is yet to come.. biggrin

For me it is the same! Screwdriver was the best of the bunch, the rest is "so so" or "just a fun groove". There's nothing 2013 yet that makes me want to come back and back to hear it again. But it is only Februari, and I enjoy the fact that these tracks are thrown at us for now...

For as long as I can remember, Orgers have been clamoring for unreleased tracks and demos/outtakes/remixes/rehearsals of any and all Prince songs.

Seems like he has listened and is giving us those -- but in advance of the actual album versions of those songs. And who's to say an "album version" ever materializes? I have like 3 different versions of Screwdriver (more if you include the videos) and a few different versions of RNRLA.

Why do you say this? Because of the liner notes?!? Never believe liner notes on a Prince Protege's album.

I believe these though. Why do people insist that Prince has written every not and word of everything he has ever been close to? While I'm sure Prince had a big hand in the sound of the album, is it inconceivable that Andy wrote the words? She had written stuff before Prince showed up.

Easy to assume Prince wrote it. Andy could have written it, since Prince's lyrics of late have been fairly mundane. Prince has lied in liner notes the same way he lied about Crystal Ball, Website after Website. This is the same guy who said he couldn't name other artists' music because he only listened to himself.

Hard to trust a liar. It makes it even more difficult to guess what songs Prince really wrote, and which ones he is lying about. SMH!

I think I must have a thing for the man's voice, because I kinda enjoy anything he's singing. He could sell a .wav of him singing in the shower and I would probably go "oh, wow, that voice" than probably have a short moment of mental sharpness and think "WTF?!?" before going "oh, but, that voice" again... So I guess I'm a bad judge here lol

That said, it may not be a Masterprince razz but that raw feeling is not bad to me. I find it a good quiet track to put on in the morning, when I'm just up the bed, sipping my veeeery hot coffee (and no, MY breakfast can't wait!)

I heard this song yesterday and couldn't decide what to say about. Today I'm still not sure.

I like it definitely. I liked the music, the raw feel, and certainly the fragile, vulnerable vocal delivery.

For some reason the lyrics are not pulling me in. Although from what I read they are beautiful. I've tried to focus on the lyrics but then I tune out half way through. I don't like that as I"m a lyrical person.

I do not like the title ... maybe if it were "thing" instead of "thang" I'd think the title matched the song's beauty. Distorted grammar is just ugly. confused

I don't know why folks are comparing this to the Truth and saying it's better than anythign on the Truth. Um, no.

Just let the song be what it is. There are several beautiful and precious songs on The Truth that are better than this one.

Others have echoed my sentiments: This is an intimate track that sounds like it was shared almost immediately after it was recorded. There is hiss in the silence as the last guitar note fades out, then you hear a click like an old-school tape-recorder shutting off. It's as if it is the '70s or '80s again and Prince has just handed us a cassette of him demoing his new song! excited

I've stated this for a while now. lol I think people are liking these tracks just because it's new Prince music. The melodies and hooks or even the simple passion or spark are sorely missing in almost all of these tracks, and a lot of folks here seem to go gaga over it just because it's something new from Prince or because they're hearing his voice on a record. They go into it wanting so desperately to love it that even IF they hate it upon first listen, they'll make themselves like it after a few spins, and they probably don't even know they're doing it.

After all, it's humanly impossible for a legend like Prince to be completely devoid of ideas, isn't it? Because if you thought so, you're being a hater or a "douche bag" (or both) and shouldn't be within 500 ft. of prince.org. rolleyes

That person above dismissing broadly people for liking P's new stuff, it really ignores.....you know, REALITY.

Howard Stern ridicules Prince whenever he pops up as a topic, yet he dug "Screwdriver." Nobody paid him to do it, and right after that digging he went back to mocking Mr. P.

EW gave a good review for "BCW." That was written by a critic paid to listen to music and review it for a major publication. Is he/she that depserate to get new P songs?

Ignorance is just too darn popular around these parts. We have people protesting P for not releasing anything physical (except RNRLA a few months ago) and protesting him for not releasing in WAV (which he is now). Then we have fans whiney about other fans hating the new tracks because they only liked PURPLE RAIN or whatever the flip.

Ignorance is too darn popular around here.

Also, who's to say that these aren't dusted-off Vault tracks?  That Girl and Boyfriend could belong to any era . . .

This song definitely sounds like a rough demo that might have stayed in the vault 20 years ago. And for that, I'm glad to hear it. But it's my least favorite of the bunch. It sounds like something that any of my reasonably talented musician friends could have made. That said, I like this 3rdeyegirl project overall. And I'm looking forward to more releases.

I guarantee if that very same critic shitted on his material, you along with everyone else would say he/she didn't know what the fuck they were talking about (as is prone to be said about those who say or feel something different than what the new NPGMC forum AKA the org does).

And your examples? One song for each person (and ONLY two examples at that, mind you). You didn't hear those same people say shit else about any of the other tracks he's put out, did you? But you look at the threads/stickies here, you'll find the exact same people saying the same "it's slammin'", "a masterpiece", "the best of them so far" type comments for each and EVERY single one, right on down the line as a new song gets released.

There really is only a small percentage of orgers that are bitching. The majority of people who have bought the track love it and think it fits in with the other released tracks. It almost seems like a story book as each song is released. Outside of the org, the feedback on the internet abroad is much more positive than anything read here. This is probably the most negative space to be a Prince fan.

One online review of the song has a link to a sample of the song.

When you click on the sample link it has the entire song, where it clearly indicates

Copyright NPG Records 2013 For Review Purposes Only. Please Do Not share Link

Major Oops, over 5000 listens(downloads???).....well Prince with friends like that who needs enemies.

It is no longer available, but the link is still there in the online review.

hahaha I agree. Prince could release a blank track and some of these quacks would be posting how "genius it is" or that it's a "masterpiece" or how much we should "appreciate it."

[Edited 2/19/13 14:54pm]

I've stated this for a while now. lol I think people are liking these tracks just because it's new Prince music. The melodies and hooks or even the simple passion or spark are sorely missing in almost all of these tracks, and a lot of folks here seem to go gaga over it just because it's something new from Prince or because they're hearing his voice on a record. They go into it wanting so desperately to love it that even IF they hate it upon first listen, they'll make themselves like it after a few spins, and they probably don't even know they're doing it.

The "Quack" theory works both ways. Just like there are trolls who will call everything a "Masterpiece," There are trolls who will hate every single thing he records. Bart Van Halen, for example, probably hasn't liked a song since 1988, yet spends probably as much time as I do listening to it. I like the fact that I actually LISTEN to all of his studio work instead of just HEARING it. I then actually form an opinion.

I do happen to like most of Prince's recent studio work. I just am not too into the 3rd Eye Girl concept, or the songs. I really dig RnR Affair, which puts me in the minority, but am still warming up to Breakfast...

In fact, RnR and Boyfriend are the only ones of these that I really like. The rest are all average to below average to me so far.

Would probably rank them so far like this:

1 RnR Affair (Original Mix Extended) (Will not rank RnR affair single/video mix, as it is just edited)

2 Boyfriend

3 Screwdriver Remix

4 Breakfast Can Wait

5 Screwdriver Live

6 Screwdriver Original

7 RnR Affair Remix #7

unranked:

Have yet to hear That Girl Thang. I am going to pay legit for all of these, but due to all the bugs, I have downloaded them from free sources, but I have never gone longer than a few weeks without making sure Prince is paid by me for his work. He obviously can't have a site where you can simply quickly download the song without having to check an email and all that crap. NPGMC may have ended in a 77 Lotus Flow3r street massacre with our "lifetime" membership, but at least those were easy, and I never had a bug. (Hey Prince, technology is even easier now than in 2002, get with the times, dude!)

All the Jamie Lewis Remixes of RnR Affair are almost unlistenable to me, and not really able to rank those. I think track 3 might be the best after the Original mixes, but don't really think I will listen to those again. I bought the physical cd, as I will always pay for his physical cds. Good thing the Original Extended Mix and Original Single Mix are on here, as I would not have been too happy with just the remixes, and it would've ended up in my storage with my Toaster Oven and Dance 4 Me single.

I have waited 4 days to work out how to download the first song I purchased, so thankyou to "Serpan" (I think his name is) in the discussion on problems with downloading. I am the least skilled in computer technology, but found it quite easy following the steps, now I have two songs.

lol relax fella. If your not one of the overly positive quacks or the overly negative quacks then there really is no need for you to defend your position. Of course I agree about it working both ways but in that particular post I was commenting specifically on the one side of the overly positive "Prince can shit in my hand" orgers. Personally, I'm more like you in the sense that I listen to the songs with an unbiased ear. So far the only song I have distaste for is that girl thang. otherwise the recent output has been pretty good.

Others have echoed my sentiments: This is an intimate track that sounds like it was shared almost immediately after it was recorded. There is hiss in the silence as the last guitar note fades out, then you hear a click like an old-school tape-recorder shutting off. It's as if it is the '70s or '80s again and Prince has just handed us a cassette of him demoing his new song! excited

This is what I'm sayin'! nod

I mean if he did have sex he would break every rule Jehova's have regarding premarital sex so Prince is really just friends with them all anyway.

It should be. One listen to 90% of all remixes since 1992 for most artists just don't do it for me. Too many songs got that lame house beat treatment where they all sounded the same. I've always preferred alternate mixes or extended mixes. I can't remember enjoying the Cream remix cd even once.

I don't have any idea what anyone's talking about with this email stuff. I pay. A screen comes up saying it's returning to 3rdeyegirl.com, then it does. There's a list of available files, with a download link right under the file. I right-click, save, and that's it. Why do so many other people have a completely different experience? Maybe I can get the letters to shrink even smaller. After the last Prince web venture did not work out well for me, I decided to wait and see what happened with others. Since Prince refuses to buy anything at cost, and as a rule only pays below the cheapest possible prices for damn near anything, it is no shock to me that many are having problems. When you buy cheap, you get cheap.

It's not odd that the process has been seamless for some, but before Prince gets my money, there can't be so many complaints. So I have "stolen" the songs for the time being, but Prince has and always will get my money. I can just have them now at no risk, and pay when the kinks are gone. If he puts it on a physical cd, I will buy them yesterday. Even though these are not my favorite new Prince songs...but most of them are at least average.

Like I said in my above post, if he could have a pretty seamless process in 2002, he should be able to in 2013, but when you hire Acme Coyote Cheap IT, Inc to do your websites, you can expect some issues.

Agreed. The NPGMC store was a fine thing, if only it had continued. And I understand some hesitation--so far, the only thing that those who hesitate have lost is the longer "movie" version of the "Screwdriver" video (they seem to have fixed the bug that left it available), and that's not much of a loss. I hope things don't start disappearing, but you never know with Prince. The whole thing could go away tomorrow.

Erm...yes he did, he had presence from about 97/98 with Love4oneanother.com, then in 2000 with NPGOnlineLtd.com, 2001-2006 through the various guises such of the NPGMC and then in 2009 with the Lotusflow3r site so he has done this before albeit in relative short bursts.

However although it's good to see a new site, the trouble is its potential audience is limited as it's not really known about or advertised outside the hardcore community.....i mean everyone else would think 3rdeyegirl is a just a new girl launching tracks LOL.

I think he needs to amalgamate this or build up to a well-known new 'Prince' website....although I suspect that is what he is planning...this is just the early test-bed incarnation.

You know...the tubes.

I mean if he did have sex he would break every rule Jehova's have regarding premarital sex so Prince is really just friends with them all anyway.

I wasn't too keen on this song at first, but after a few listens I kinda like it. I had the same reaction to most of the tracks on The Truth, too (although I don't think this sounds like any of those tracks aside from being acoustic).

I'm not sure how "impressed" I am by the fact that it was written and recorded in a day (I'm sure that happens a lot with Prince), but I do like the idea that it was released the same day that it was written/recorded.

Why has this thread (and the others about the new tracks) been renamed to include "Prince & 3rd Eye Girl"?

This song in particular is obviously Prince alone, and there's nothing to indicate that the others are intended to be credited that way either.

You do realize that all but 1 of them originally had, by the OP, some version of Prince 3rd Eye Girl in their title right? It was always in the titles,

Don't make it bigger than what it is, where do you buy the songs from? that's all that means

and as far as any band name how many songs were just Prince credited as Prince and the NPG

I've ordered the songs, however it's not clear to me if 3rdeyegirl actually collected the money.

I've send an e-mail about it, and got this Postmaster mail:

So, I guess, I just have to wait for the E-mail with download link, because 3rdeyegirl didn't receive my mails or payment yet?

I'm diggin' this song! love love As a few others have mentioned, it has a 1978-1979 feel to it. It reminds me of a track that would have been on Prince's first or second CD. I love it; it's my favorite new track so far. I listened to it once, then started singing the song. There aren't too many recent Prince songs that have had that effect on me. Good job, Prince! thumbs up!

The roughly-sketched ‘That Girl Thang’ finds the Purple One exploring the highest register of his voice, armed with only an intricately-picked acoustic guitar. Unlike Prince’s recent dispatches, this one trades throwback boogie and bedroom funk for stripped down songcraft and very Princely lyrics (“Hum a little secret / People think I’m free / Instead of a fifth dimension prisoner / in ecstasy.”).
