Prince cancelled a show in Brazil 5 days b4 the event

No explanation was given except an email that says "he could not be there that day", which is saturday. The Show was part of a festival Black2Black that's gonna happen in Rio de Janeiro this weekend...

fans, of course, are really angry, specially because Brazil is a big country, so most of them don't live in Rio and had already bought plane tickets and made hotel reservations. it's a big mess. I didn't even know that he was coming...I was kinda lucky 4 that..on the other hand I would hate myself if it happened and I found out about it 2 late.

Stuff happens though. For all you know, he's sick and just can't do it.

And it's better to find out five days ahead of time than the day of.

Plenty of time to cancel a hotel (most accept cancellation up to 72 hours before check-in).

Airlines generally issue vouchers minus a fee for most cancelled trips to ticket holders.

If Prince was the sole performer at the 'festival' and there's no other performers then they'll issue refunds. If there's other artists performing then there's still a show to be seen.

I agree 100% with Jesse Johnson, you should go fuck yourself!

Hey people, Prince tickets were sold separately and it was twice the price of the rest of the festival tickets so we will get the refund. I bough fly tickets for me and my girfriend and i will only get a 1/2 refund from the company. There were people coming from Argentina and Even europe. It sucks, the festival was relying on this presence to sell tickets the festival will be a total failure without him. I was going to cross half of the country just to see him, boy i am really pissed.

Right. The thread should be retitled "Prince Surprises Brazilian Fans By Giving More Than One Hour's Notice For Cancellation."

I think it's strange that they (the festival) haven't put anything about it on their site.

Psst! People in glass houses shouldn't throw boomerangs wink

So sorry to hear he's cancelled sad

From what I've read, Brazil (or was it the whole of Sth America?) has been waiting more than twice as long as we have (did someone say 20 years??) and to miss out only days before the event is really sad, particularly when travel costs and rescheduled/cancelled plans are factored in.

There are so many legitimate reasons why an artist may need to cancel at such late notice - probably best to trust that if there was any way Prince could have made this event happen, he would have.

To make assumptions to the contrary will truly just cause stress and anger that doesn't really achieve anything and most probably isn't necessary.

Granted, I'm sure it doesn't make it any less disappointing.

This trip, he managed to make it up to Ireland. I hope he can do the same for Brazil ASAP.

Kimr, i dont think he will ever play in Brazil again. He is not very popular here and now he has a terrible reputation, after this fiasco.

I hope this is not true, for Princ has many fans in Brazil and in South America, who like me, have bought plane tickets, booked hotels and bought tickets twice more expensive to watch him!

I guess there is a miundestanding in this story, I do not beleive he would do such a disgusting thing!!!!

When he cancelled his Dallas show last year, it emerged that his contract included a clause that allows him to get paid even if the show is cancelled as long as it is not completely his fault (for example, if not enough tickets were sold to pay his full fee). If that is part of his standard contract now, then any little thing could have gone wrong and he would have the right to bail while keeping his money.

Having had tickets to the last concert he cancelled, I feel bad for those of you who were planning to attend this one. But it's no surprise. Perhaps an explanation will be forthcoming on Dr. Funkenberry's site about how there are two sides to every story, or something.
