The Assman is not in town! Man with offensive last name denied vanity plate.

A Canadian man says that his request for a personalized license plate has been rejected on the grounds that it contains an “unacceptable slogan.”

The CBC reports that Dave Assman, who pronounces his last name as “Oss-men,” has been prohibited from putting his last name on his license plate — and he’s determined to fight the ban.

“It’s my last name. I’ve always had it,” the Saskatchewan resident told the CBC. “I’m not ashamed of it. There’s nothing bad about it.”

For Assman, his name carries a proud legacy. His great-grandfather, an Assman himself, would help other farmers during hard times.

He has a dream to be the Assman. Let him have it.

LOL, awesome "Seinfeld" reference.

Reminds me of the old SNL sketch with Nicolas Cage and he's going over all kinds of potential names for his upcoming baby. Every name his wife throughs out Cage rejects, coming up with some way the name can be mocked. Then the doorbell rings - it's the pizza guy.

"That'll be ten dollars, Mr. Asswipe" he says and Cage angrily retorts, "That's Oh-SWEE-pay!"

How old is that sketch? And was the baby a girl? I'm asking because it makes me think of a Dutch comedy group that I'm sure you never heard about who used the same idea. One man came up with names for his baby girl while the other two men made jokes about it like "Liz your pussy smells like piss. Can I go In...grid.That's bad!" This was in the mid 90s and if the sketch you talk about was older, then they may have gotten it from there.

September 22, 1992. So the Dutch group may have pilfered it from "Saturday Night Live". Or great minds may have just been thinking alike. Here's the sketch:

Assman Will Not Take This Sitting Down

David Assman, pronounced OSS-man if you must know, is a Canadian railroad worker who wanted a simple thing: his last name on his license plate. He was thwarted in this quest, but got revenge in the best possible style.
