DeNiro at Tonys : "Fuck Trump"

Robert De Niro- An American hero and a great artist- sums it up beautifully. This is like the sweetest music to my ears !

On CBS you couldn't tell what he was saying. It's great that the Australian broadcast posted above was uncensored.

Has there been a reply tweet yet?

DeNiro is a complete idiot and did more to guarantee the GOP wins the mid-terms and Trump gets re-elected than Trump could have ever done himself.

I disagree. The important thing is to rile up our base and get them to vote. The people who chose to support Trump are a lost cause. Trump created the new rules of politics, so we have to play the new game. If you have to just play to your base , that's the new normal.

Of course, the people complaining about De Niro and liberals have NOTHING to say about this. HE created this new world, and his followers lapped it up.

DeNiro recently said that he will speak out against Trump at every opportunity he gets. He said "To be silent in the face of such villainy is to be complicit" ...

As a fellow New Yorker, his statement here was beautiful in it's succintness and directness of expression of true emotion.... A taste of the flavor of our wonderful town !

If only New Yorkers were voting, or if DeNiro's comments were only heard by New Yorkers, whoop-dee-do. But the 2018 and 2020 elections are nationwide, and DeNiro's comments will offend more undecided voters than they will sway undecided voters.

And do not think for one moment that there aren't undecided voters out there, or voters who went with Trump/GOP in 2016 but are not sure about continued support. There are, for sure.

Plus, what about DeNiro's vulgar comments are going to get those smelly, teeth-missing, lazy, sloth-like, slow-moving, couch-depression-making losers in PA, WI and MI vote this time? Nothing. What will make those Trump-enabling goofballs vote is the realization that they gave us Trump. They are to blame and it's up to them to peel themselves off their BarcaLoungers in 2018 and 2020 and rectify their mistake. They owe us that.

I'm not convinced that this will sway things much one way or the other, in the final analysis. I do agree that the Left needs to do more than this, though; and that, while this kind of statement is satisfying (and understandable!) and it might help rally the base, it's not going to help win many converts.

I have a first-hand vantage point of a trump voter everyday @ work. They say, "The media just can't get over the fact that he's not a typical politician." I heard this this morning as he read the news.

The important thing is that our base is riled up and votes. As for the "undecideds", either shit or get off the pot...

In the end, does it really matter what De Niro said ? The Trump voter made their peace with, and justified all the nastiness that has come out of HIS mouth, both before and after the election.

Damn right I rail on them. Those fat, lazy, good-for-nothing, selfish babies are DIRECTLY responsible for President Trump. Because THEY were too lazy to vote, or had their little baby feelings hurt because they weren't visited by HRC, or whatever - THEY DIDN'T VOTE AND THAT IS HOW TRUMP WON THOSE THREE STATES.

Go back and compare Democratic voter turn-out in 2012 vs. 2016 in those states. You will see that I am 100% correct.

WE did OUR jobs. WE voted for Clinton and she won OUR states. She WON the popular vote by almost 3,000,000. But those gap-toothed, Pearl-swilling, Twinkies-eating, hookah-inhaling, Justin-Bieber-listeners DID NOT.

This is 100% their fault and I will damn sure make certain they know it, and they have their chance to start fixing it in November.

True. But in neither of our states was Democratic voter turn-out in 2016 less than it was in 2012. That's the difference. All WI, MI and PA had to do was exactly what they'd done four years previous.

But they were too - you know - to do it.

I have nothing personally against the fine states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. I am PISSED at the lazy Dems in that state who DID vote in 2012 but DID NOT vote in 2016.

They and they alone bear the responsibility of Trump's victory.

And now it's Robert DeNiro that will bear the responsibility if the father of the feckless cunt gets a second term. ( evening typing the words "second term" when referring to the pig in the whitehouse makes me sick ).

So do you propose on charming them into voting in 2020 with these staements ^ ?

Actually, those who voted for trump because they did not like Hillary should be on the "fuck trump" band wagon. His base will not be swayed - so the idea is to get ALL Dems to vote and to bring back those republicans and Democrats who voted for the pussy grabbng asshole into making an informed choice - an opponent should not waste time talking about or bashing trump in their campaign but OFFERING ALTERNATIVE and BETTER POLICIES that would benefit the voters who turned to him as if he could possibly be better.

Yes, very much so. I nearly commented on the eother thread, but didn't have time. I think culture and representation are certainly important, but I agree with Bill that they're a poor substitute for political power - and, I would add, economic power. Even at the best of times, people's power to influence what gets onto the airwaves and into the cultural sphere is pretty limited, and it's circumscribed by the interests of commercial entities. Anyway, interesting to see that raised as a piece of advice for parts of the Left. Maybe the tide is turning....

De Niro has been ranting and insulting for quite some time now, and I understand why, but still.....what´s the point?

He´ll only convince the Trump voters to vote for him a second time since they seem to be immune to facts and take things very emotionally.

The same goes for other autocrats in other countries. Their fanbase does not care about facts and does care about insults and emotions.

This will only help Trump win a second term.

A smarter form of protest would make more sense.

This is far from smart and very short sighted.

The only potential benefit I see here is that one day De Niro gets in so much trouble that undecided voters probably think twice about voting for Trump again.

But something major would have to happen to De Niro for Trump voters to wake up.

I admire him for speaking up but I strongly disagree with his methods.

It´s just as inefficient as saying "Fuck nazis!" or "Fuck racists!" or whatever you protest against.

It won´t change anything, except for MAYBE showing your opponents that you are not alone.
