Am I the only one excited about the new UFO news?!?

Seriously? Here we have the New York Times reporting on a $22 million Pentagon UFO program - complete with awesome UFO video from an F/A-18 Hornet - and no one has posted it?

What the F?

I've certainly mocked enough fake UFO stories but maybe we've found a real one. I dang sure trust F/A-18 pilots. Here, take a gander:

And here is the story that you should be reading:

https://www.nytimes.com/2....html?_r=1

WASHINGTON — In the $600 billion annual Defense Department budgets, the $22 million spent on the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program was almost impossible to find.

For years, the program investigated reports of unidentified flying objects, according to Defense Department officials, interviews with program participants and records obtained by The New York Times. It was run by a military intelligence official, Luis Elizondo, on the fifth floor of the Pentagon’s C Ring, deep within the building’s maze.

The shadowy program — parts of it remain classified — began in 2007, and initially it was largely funded at the request of Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat who was the Senate majority leader at the time and who has long had an interest in space phenomena. Most of the money went to an aerospace research company run by a billionaire entrepreneur and longtime friend of Mr. Reid’s, Robert Bigelow, who is currently working with NASA to produce expandable craft for humans to use in space.

On CBS’s “60 Minutes” in May, Mr. Bigelow said he was “absolutely convinced” that aliens exist and that U.F.O.s have visited Earth.

I'll watch but I'm going to have a hard time reconciling random things people saw in passing versus what the people of SETI who spend their entire lives actively searching have to say.

Read Area 51. Project Bluebook was created to divert us from what the military was doing and fawning the idea that there were aliens. There may be aliens somewhere but they are most obviously just small germs or micro creatures.

I do believe we are almost certainly not alone... I doubt any of them have ever come here.

it is almost a mathematical thing... the odds of them finding US and coming here seem very slim...

Which is why I'll watch it, just thought I'd give a heads up of my attitude going in.

When I was a kid, I remember getting UFO books at our yearly RIF events in school, the TV show Project UFO, which was based on the real gov't agency investigating UFOs, reading about and seeing a made for TV movie - The UFO Incident, about Barney & Betty Hill (played by James Earl Jones and Estelle Parsons) who has a rather famous story about a UFO encounter. The mini-series V started the reptilian thing (and the reboot was good, too, but moved too slow). I was just fascinated by it all.

My father, who loved Star Trek, read Tarzan books, and Close Encounters, once told me, "The universe is huge. We can't think we are the only ones here." It made sense to me, and I always believed that through my life.

Frankly, I think we're not nearly as advanced in social ability or scientific technology for some aliens to really make contact with us. With the onset of space travel and advanced exploration in the 50s and 60s is what probably promoted the many sightings we saw more in those decades (and into the 70s). I sorta believe the idea that once we reach the ability to travel at light speed, we might see contact with other alien species. (It's a bit of Star Trek prime directive but it makes sense.)

I'm not sure if I believe aliens are here among us, disguised as us. I'm open to that idea though, but you'd think someone would have slipped up by now and revealed themselves in a very big and public way. I flat out do not believe in some reptilian bullshit. I consider it the biggest trolling of humanity when someone perpetuates that nonsense.

This experience will cover courtship, sex, commitment, fetishes, loneliness, vindication, love, and hate.

I'm with you. I have to believe there's life elsewhere but so far, until now I haven't seen a credible reporting of a UFO. At least, everything that's been posted here has been easily debunked.

It's hard to keep up a belief in UFOs when every single instance one is presented of them turns out to be a hoax. But still....

Yes, most. But this one is from the pilot of an F/A-18 Super Hornet. I'm gonna put a lot of stock in what a guy who can land a jet on a moving boat at night says he sees.

Let's not get carried away. All this means is that - surprise! - the US was been investigating UFOs after all, and maybe still is. The "U" still stands for unidentified, and there's still absolutely no evidence whatsoever that there are aliens visiting Earth.

no, mathematically it's the opposite. by now there should be hundreds of highly advanced civilizations with the technology and the time to have colonized our entire galaxy. so the question is rather where the fuck are they?

but that whole thing has some issues and some of them have been debunked.

It is like in a group of 50 people there is a 97% chance that 2 of them share a birthday.

this argument is saying in all these planets there is almost a certainty that many of them have visited or been visited. But to say we have been visited or visited others is much less likely.

even if they are billions of years advanced... we are still not going to be easy to find and then get here... and the window do find us and get here is tiny.

What's always been interesting to me about this subject, is there are those that do not believe in God's existence, but believe there has to be aliens, though they have no definitive evidence to support them. The same arguments they use against the existence of God, can be used against the existence of aliens. In the absence of evidence, both require some kind of faith that they exist. Always found that quite interesting.

Indeed, it’s gross hypocrisy. There is exactly the same amount of evidence that god exists as there’s is for aliens having visited Earth. However, unlike god, it’s likely that aliens do actually exist somewhere in the universe.
