Yes. St Croix is the biggest of the USVI with the least people. Buck Island clocked 131 mph gusts but no eye, thank goodness. The good thing there is you can get to higher ground but your roof could go, no problem. My brother volunteered to rebuild roofs after Hugo in 1989 when 98% of them blew off. I am worried about Fla, damn. shake

Yes, St.Thonas got 175 mph wind yesterday No telephone communication available from 11 am yesterday. Waiting to hear if some family members are ok. I remember Hugo back in 89 though.

I remember that. You knew about when it would hit when NPR went off on the island in front of you. They shut power down there ahead of time, too.

Hoping the best for your family! heart

Thanks and same to your peeps.

The news in this article surely is not good though. Hopefully many Floridians are able to get out before it hits there. Irma is no joke.

Hurricane Irma cripples only hospital on St. Thomas as it churns through Caribbean

"Hurricane Irma, one of the most powerful storms ever recorded in the Atlantic, has ravaged parts of the U.S. Virgin Islands, tearing off roofs and crippling the only hospital on St. Thomas.
"St. Thomas and St. John are pretty devastated," Rep. Stacey Plaskett, the Virgin Islands' delegate to Congress, told USA TODAY. "We've had houses slamming into other houses."
Irma's fierce winds ripped off the roof of the Roy Schneider Medical Center on St. Thomas, and the local authorities were working Thursday to evacuate patients to the island of St. Croix via helicopter, Plaskett said."

Got the water, ramen, and chocolate. Everything is in order. I'm about as prepped as I can be.

I hope you have a gas stove to cook the ramen. If not, you need to get something that does not require cooking to eat. The electricity is 1st thing to go in a hurricane.

I get your point, but I'm good. I was raised by survivalists in some pretty primitive conditions. I can make some hot water. Heck, I can kill, clean, and cook a squirrel if it came down to it. lol

Yes. Seems like with the lessons of these recent hurricanes, we need to build more emergency shelters in our cities, for these types of disasters.

Squirrel ain't half bad!

It looks like this thing is heading further west than initially projected and may be headed straight at us. All these folks who stopped in my area to ride it out in their RVs should probably seriously consider moving on. Traffic in my area is nuts. People were in Walmart fighting over bread yesterday. Really? Bread? lol

The ruse was for cousin Chuckie. He would find buckshot occaisionally and freak out. My one grandma did not like to cook so it wasn't so good, lol

Saw the westerly jog this morning and thought of you. Fingers crossed! Fighting over bread at Wally's sounds about right.
Luckily you got the chocolate early on - priorities. highfive

Irma is a beast. Longest hurricane I've heard of in a while, just going from one country through another. Hope all is safe during this time.

Now Georgia is under hurricane watch. Unbelievable

maybe it was more of an offer of shelter... no one would be charged over that.

but you do get charged with looting... (which in some cases I okay with)

for looting: if it is food that is going to go bad... why not? if it is items that are going to be declared a total loss anyway why not? it is stealing what will be declared garbage... the catch is they do not know what will or will not be in some cases.

Some people chose to leave their homes while others braved it out. Reporter Chris Cuomo endured- quite ably it must be said- 130 mph gusts, while Sara Sidner struggled to bear winds sub-100 mph.

Proof if any were needed, muscle weighs more than fat.

Manchester United only play terrible when it's very windy or in hurricanes. At least recently. Or those times when Nick Powell got 'caught in possesssion' more times in a game than Pete Doherty.

Or whenever Eric Djemba-Djemba received the ball, bc he had the first touch of a rapist disbelief
