This just in from Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter;

"Oklahoma City has agreed to trade Carmelo Anthony and a protected 2022 first-round pick to Atlanta for point guard Dennis Schroder and Mike Muscala, league sources tell ESPN. Anthony will be waived, and he will join team of his choice. Rockets are frontrunner."

LOL @ Houston.

Sad! sad

How was the relationship between Melo and D'Antoni when D'Antoni coaced him with the Knicks? There was a passing reference in today's Houston newspaper that it may not have been great.

On the plus side, Dennis Schroder and I have the same last name. I wish he'd be a Rocket just once, so I could get an NBA jersey with my name on the back of it, LOL.

This link explains the whole Anthony/ Lin/ Pringles mess;

This 2012 ESPN The Magazine story

I can't wait for Anthony to go to Houston and wreck their season. If he would accept a 6th man role and be a scorer off the bench, it might work. But he still thinks he should start. That's his problem - he's never been a "team" player, he's not a leader, and he's a human turnstile on defense. Shit, Durant will drop 60 on him. lol

Williams could defend, rebound and run the floor. He wasn't Nowitzki, and that's what Jordan's Bulls needed. I believe MJ is the GOAT because he won 6 O'Briens WITHOUT a dominant big man, which historically is an anomaly.

But remember -- we weren't talking about the Lakers and Celtics squads, which are among the greatest of all-time. I think the '86 Celtics or '87 Lakers would have beaten any of LBJ's or MJ's teams.

The discussion was LBJ's rosters v. MJ's rosters. And even MJ's '91-'93 rosters were better than any of LBJ's Finals rosters.

Maybe he did those things in college at UNC but in the NBA no he didn't, running the floor was the only thing I remember him doing somewhat effective as a pro, those other two things NO! biggrin

I brought up the Laker and Celtics squads to give an example of what I believe a deep roster is and the fact that he won his first three with that squad, during that era, shows how great not only MJ is but Phil Jackson and his coaching staff's ability to coach was also.

It's more of a shot at Chtis Paul - he's delusional if he thinks Carmelo Anthony puts Houston over Golden State. Can't wait to see the look on Paul's face when Anthony hogs the ball or lets his man go by him for a layup, Trevor Ariza gave effort on deense, Rockets will miss him more than they think.

I'll say it, once again. The argument is relative.

The main point is that MJ's title rosters were better than LBJ's title rosters, which you still haven't directly addressed.

You thought I was saying the roster was deep relative to NBA history and I wasn't. I was saying it was deep relative to LeBron James' title teams. You weighed in without acknowledging the context.

I don't understand this at all. Maybe they want to put together a team of veterans crazy enough to think they can beat GS. I'd have to think they consulted James beforehand.

But having Stephenson, Rondo, McGee, and Beasley on the same team may have an impact on the young core.

To truly compete next year, one or 2 of those 3 are going to have to blossom. And that may not happen with this locker room.

Is this current Laker roster better than the one Lebron had in Cleveland?

Magic probably thinks Lebron can make chicken salad out of chicken shit, but this isn't the second-rate Eastern conference.

No one can beat that Ball guy at drama, so I guess we'll be in second place on that.

I'm just hoping against hope that Melo has matured, realizes this is his last and best chance for a ring, and becomes a team player. Hey, it's happened before! A guy can dream, can't he?

I think setting the over-under at 45 is okay. The West will still be stacked and there are a LOT of personalities to manage in that locker room.

The key to the Lakers' season is not necessarily going to be LeBron. It's going to be whether any of the young guns on the roster will make a leap in their game. Personally, I hope it's Ingram.

Here's the best-case scenario;

https://www.thedreamshake.com/2018/7/24 ... y-off-base

Kevin Love news;

Adrian Wojnarowski‏ @wojespn
ESPN reporting with @WindhorstESPN: Cavaliers forward Kevin Love has signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension --- topping out his overall deal at five-years, $145 million, league sources tell ESPN.

With Lebron on the team what system will Luke Walton run?

I wonder if the Cavs will end up doing what the Clippers did with Blake Griffin last season, give Kevin Love a huge extension in the offseason then trade him somewhere?

I think Chris Paul can keep Melo in line, they still can't beat the Warriors though biggrin

LBJ and Walton need to figure that out. Walton likes a lot of ball movement and running, which seems to be the antithesis of what LBJ has been doing for years. If Ball takes a leap then LBJ could become more of a scorer which would be scary.

But that's why 45 wins is reasonable this first year; I can see them playing .500 ball clear to January.

That's a huge contract to take on, even for a contender looking for the final piece to the puzzle.

Them letting Ariza go is going to make a difference.

Lebron being more of a scorer is very scary! If that happens they'll win 50 games in the regular season IMO.

I can see one of those teams with a dumb GM, like the Brooklyn Nets, taking on that contract, If Love lasts for the duration of that contract in Cleveland I'll be shocked

Ariza got $15 Million from the Suns, I like his game but not that much, damn!

Agreed.

He will bring value as CLE's centerpiece, the "missing piece" for a contender via trade, or an expiring contract in '21. He's back to where he was in MIN but he's paid and has a ring.

Ariza got $15 Million from the Suns, I like his game but not that much, damn!

On those terms with any other team, agreed. He's got injury history and a lot of mileage. But with HOU's limited window, and the value he brought to that team as a 3-and-D, he's worth that on a short-term deal.

Particularly on the defensive end. Even in his prime, Carmelo never gave effort on 'D'. So I don't think Kevin Durant & Co. are worried about Houston.
